thereuare Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! Are you plans (as in what you will be doing on a day-to-day basis) different for the first 2 nites of your stay vs. the last 3 nites of your stay? What type of things do you like to do to 'experience' a city... i'm not really clear what your plans are and which area(s) you intend to spend most of your time. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. LSR Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 The plan is not different, we intend to go sightseeing during the day (Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, visit museums, delis and so on) and during the night go to restaurants, jazz clubs, Broadway shows etc.
thereuare Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Your budget allows for a maximum bid of about $165, which unfortunately at current prices isn't going to go too far... i think the your best chance is for a 3* as i think the 3.5* and 4* properties will also be out of your price range. For the average visitor midtown usually works best and at the 3* level the Chelsea, ESB, MSG, MTW, and Times Square zones usually work well. The CPS zone is also fine if you're ok with the possibility of the Hudson Hotel, which is a fine property but has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards)... and the MTE zone is also fine if you're ok with being a little far east, as some of the hotels in this zone at less then 4* can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway. Let us know if the above mentioned zones are acceptable, and if CPS and/or MTE should be included in a bidding strategy, and we'll advise accordingly. Also, if there are any other zones you want to add let us know or we can comment as to why they may not be best for the average user. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. LSR Posted September 15, 2010 Author Report Posted September 15, 2010 All the areas you mentioned are ok, but the MTE cause I
thereuare Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 I'd like to know what area should we stay at from the 26th to the 29th so we can experience NY, it's our first visit. What do you think of the Brooklyn area? The only reason (imo) to stay in Brooklyn is if your budget won't allow for a Manhattan property... you will lose a fair amount of the 'nyc experience' you stated you were looking for.You can bid whichever zone(s) you'd like and not include MTE, but as a point of reference, if your bids in your preferred area are rejected, i'd sooner stay in Manhattan and have a 15 minute walk to the subway vs. staying in Brooklyn (even if the hotel is right next to a subway station... which there are no assurances how close/far from the subway the Brooklyn hotel you receive will be)We'll suggest a strategy for however you would like to play it, but if you're able to raise your budget to a $200 bid amount (before fees/taxes) i think you have a 'small' chance at a 3.5* and a 'decent' chance at a 3* in Manhattan itself.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
