NYGRADTRIP Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 going on my college grad trip for new years eve, and would like to stay in a 3.5-4* suite-type hotel with view in times square to have the full experience of the festivities.... but bidding has not been working well for me.any advice/suggestions? this trip is very important to me and i will be taking 9 family members! individual beds unnecessary, but perhaps a minimum of 2 doubles/queens and a sofa bed.thanks so much.
NYGRADTRIP Posted September 11, 2010 Author Report Posted September 11, 2010 ALSO:is it possible to bid for a suite-size room on priceline? my whole party prefers not to have to book separate rooms, but if it is advisable, please do let me know. this is the first trip i've taken to NY in over 10 years.thanks.
AaronJB Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)One cannot bid on a suite via PRICELINE. While one can occasionally find a Suite (which will show a "S"/Suite icon) on HOTWIRE, there are not many of these properties and they do not always appear. Overall, it may not always be possible to get a suite in NYC via these services. PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy/1 bed, so I would not recommend it for 9 people.Rooms in NYC are often quite small and a party 9 will absolutely require multiple rooms. What areas are you interested in staying and what would be your desired budget per night? Additionally, what are the exact dates of your stay? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
NYGRADTRIP Posted September 16, 2010 Author Report Posted September 16, 2010 THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. the details of my trip are as follows...# of people already booked - 6# of people potentially booking - 4(giving me a potential total of 10 people)preferred area - TIMES SQUARE for nye festivities (flexible checkin/checkout, as long as we are in times square for NYE)desired budget - for a large suite: less than $800/night..... for multiple smaller rooms: less than $300/nightthanks again for the help!

thereuare Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 going on my college grad trip for new years eve, and would like to stay in a 3.5-4* suite-type hotel with view in times square to have the full experience of the festivities....It would be unreasonable to expect a room thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE with a view of Times Square for New Years Eve... hotels will have no problem selling rooms with a view of Times Square on their own for this nite, and will get a premium for it.You might win something thru PRICELINE / HOTWIRE... but at best it will be a standard room and not have a view of Times Square. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. NYGRADTRIP Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 dec 28-jan 4th.thanks for the help everyone
thereuare Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Have you decided to try and book a room direct OR are you interested in multiple 'standard' rooms? If you're still looking to bid on PRICELINE how many rooms do you need? What is your maximum bid? Are you willing to accept another zone besides Times Square? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. NYGRADTRIP Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 i have tried booking a room directly through the companies but i have not been having much luck.i am also interested in multiple standard rooms but do not want to spend more than $700/night TOTAL for all 10 of us. we would only need 2 rooms, but for new year's eve we would only prefer to stay in times square. or someplace within less than a mile walking distance at least.thanks
thereuare Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 i have tried booking a room directly through the companies but i have not been having much luck.Let me guess... everything out of your price range?i am also interested in multiple standard rooms but do not want to spend more than $700/night TOTAL for all 10 of us. we would only need 2 rooms...For starters, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy so you could receive rooms with only one bed in them, which in NYC is a likely scenario... it's generally considered risky to use PRICELINE for more then double occupancy in NYC, and you're looking to hold FIVE per room, which exceeds the maximum occupancy for almost all standard NYC rooms.Second, your budget is not realistic. Even if two rooms would be acceptable, your budget of $700 all-in is about $611 before taxes (not including any booking fees) and therefore ~$300 per room for 7 nites... or about $45/nite per room which isn't even close to what you'll need to be successful for this stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. NYGRADTRIP Posted September 19, 2010 Author Report Posted September 19, 2010 my stay is from dec 28th-jan 4th but i am looking to bid on PRICELINE for a room ONLY FOR NEW YEAR'S NIGHT. for every other night, members of my party will be coming and going so i plan on booking those nights separately in areas other than midtown. i think that is where the misunderstanding is about my budget.our hope is to only stay in times square the night of 12/31/10, and to not spend more than $700/night for that night ONLY.
AaronJB Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy, and that is particularly true in NYC. Unfortunately, $700 for multiple rooms is going to be unlikely in TS for NYE. HOTWIRE has no TS properties showing for 12/31 only, and in terms of regular rate, what hotels in the area that are available are extremely expensive.Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.
