Priceline Hotel: Need help with Halifax 4* September 27 to 30

Hi there! I am looking for a strategy for a 4 star hotel in Halifax for September 27 to 30. This might look simple on first glance but there is a conference downtown during the same period. I am looking for a hotel in the downtown as I will not have a car... so 4* hotel guarantees that I will be in the prime area. I actually don't mind staying in a lower star hotel if it is at a convenient location.

Seeing the prices on the internet for hotels that I am interested in, I am willing to bid as high as $110-115 per night.

At the 4* level you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

I'm not sure if $100 will be enough, but with time on your side i would bid in two parts:

Select 4* Halifax...

Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $65, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* Halifax and re-bid zone2...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $80

If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and re-try as follows:

I am up to $115 on 4* with no luck... I am going to try a few $ more, but I am seriously thinking about a different strategy and lower to include 3.5*... the risk is that it puts me a bit farther from the prime downtown area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What is the best rate you're able to find at a 4* hotel thru non-opaque booking channels? What about for a 3.5*?

It looks like a lot of hotels in the area have already been sold out. The Westin Nova Scotian (4*) is $229/night... some 3.5* hotels have similar pricing.

Unfortunately, this may be a tough period to get anything reasonable in the area - HOTWIRE has no discounted rate listings in the Halifax area for these dates. Are there other nearby zones that would work okay?
