Successful Priceline bid of $132/night, Amsterdam "City Center and Museum Quarter" for 9/23-9/26. Bid was accepted by the Hilton Amsterdam. Total for 3 nights w/ fees of $454.50.

Bid was made a while back, so may not be representative of current available rates.

That's outside the zone on the priceline map for "city center - MQ" amsterdam. I would be very upset if I got that hotel, it's clearly in "city center south".

This hotel does appear to be in the current City Center South zone, but as this thread is almost 2 months old, it's possible that the zone boundaries on PRICELINE have changed, and at the time won, this hotel was in the City Center-Museum Quarter zone.

I will use the links. Great board. I am concerned about the fact that priceline calls hotels in the area of the Hilton "Muesem Area" when you can see the name, and then calls it city central south on the name your own price. Another example I saw on the board was Okura. I'm not accepting anything outside that bubble. Hope it doesn't come to blows.

The 'retail' version of their site and the 'opaque' version of PRICELINE use different zone names and boundaries, so you can't necessarily compare the two. (and never use the retail section to determine your re-bid zones)

If you need help with an upcoming stay please start a NEW TOPIC.

Thanks.

I have been following PL NYOP AMS bidding since long before when Museum and Center were two different bidding zones.(aka the good old days)

Hilton has always been in the Center-Museum zone as far as bidding since they combined the two zones into one. It has never been in the South zone. This has to do with fact not map reading.

And the okura has been in the center-museum zone as long as it has shown up as a PL NYOP 5 star.

If you do not want either of those hotels then do not bid for a 5 star in AMS-----because you just might get one of them.

One reason I always bid on 4 stars in AMS. I like the locations better.

Yes, the other possibility i didn't get into above is that sometimes the mapping software used (in this instance i looked at Google Maps) doesn't plot the location accurately enough and makes it appear to be in a different zone.

Thanks BacSi for confirming that this property is accurately classified in the PRICELINE's (City Center-Museum Quarter) zone.

Just an off topic comment.

But it really was great when you had a Museum zone to bid and a Center zone to bid on as well. The Movenpick (4*) to the Okura (5*) as it stands now----that just seems to me to be a larger area than it should be.

The cut off was about the Marriott if I remember correctly. And I "think" the Marriott was the start of the Museum zone.

I have not a clue why they made the change. I have been trying to see a reason. But so far------nothing. I see who got hurt by the zone combining (the bidders) but cannot see who gained.

It is not accurately classified.

It's right in the middle of the city center south bubble. Now while it may be the Museum quarter, it is not the Museum quarter represented on the map.

I'm starting a new thread, but this is fraud. I asked them point blank on the phone: if I bid on bubble A and my hotel is in bubble B, do I get out of the reservation. A: No.

So I won't bid on PL and if I do it will be 4* at lower rate and fee. This helps the city center South hotels no one wants. O well.

This isn't the case... but the issue will be getting in touch with somebody at PRICELINE who will actually look at the location and compare to their zones.

Dealing with the scripted stuff is so bad. I mean I rather give another company the money after that chat and these emails they sent me. I get it - huge massive corporation. But other big, massive corps do a good job. Consumers should not be worried if they can get someone to check the map they put on their page. I notice the customer service is poorly outsourced. Considering you have to get a bloody reference number to even get a phone call, you'd think they could do it half well.

Its easy to find something to nit pick about. But if you do any homework at all you know clearly what hotels are located in what zone. That may be the easiest thing to figure out.

You can even "at times" come to have a good idea what hotel will pop up when you get your win----at least on 4 stars.

And Priceline in Amsterdam is pure and total savings.

Staying at expensive 4 and 5 stars for 2 star and sometimes even 1 star money. A very expensive hotel city made cheap. And good hotels as well.

But for some even this is not enough.

All I 'm saying is change the bubble. I'm not saying that I wouldn't still PL it in many circumstances. My beef is that I am fine with bubble 2, and they are telling me that I can only bid on bubble 2 knowing I may get bubble 1. Somehow, my diligence in figuring that the hotels offered were all not in bubble 2 (So I know what I'm getting into) and the fact that PL is a good deal exculpates them. But they are the ones who made the map. I just want them to play by the rules they made.
