James Winslow Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Hi,New to this but have appreciated all the helpful tips on Singapore. I have a question: the past few days I've been trying to bid on a 5* in Singapore with no success. I have time to keep trying but was curious--if I have bid on a 5*, changed the zones and went down to 4* (all the while upping the bid a few dollars each time) how do I approach it if I am fine with a 3* in Singapore?Specifically, if I've bid from $80 up to $99 on a 5* and have maxed out my zones and star levels, can I on the same day, now drop to 3* and lower the bid to $60 and reasonably have a chance of getting a 3* that day or should I totally start fresh and start 4* at $60, add 3* and go to $75 or so?In a nutshell: after bidding in the high 90s does it ruin my chances to suddenly go down to the 50s and 60s range assuming I change the star level accordingly? I'm think the Landmark Village or Albert Court at $130 would be fine as a back-up but I'd like to get them at a decent price. Thanks for the help!
thereuare Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! We're glad to hear you're finding the board useful. You're asking a few questions above and not sure if you're intending to, but i'll try to cover all the bases by answering them all and hopefully that will include the information you're looking for.You can lower your star rating after a round of failed bids. So if you've reached your maximum budget and zones at the 5* level, it is permissible to then bid the 4* level. HOWEVER, if you can't UNcheck any zones which you have included in the previous round(s) of bidding, and some of the zones you chose at the 5* level may not be zones you want to include at the 4* level. Therefore, you need to close the browser, use a link on the board to re-access PRICELINE, and then start with a 'clean slate' to begin bidding at the 4* level. As well, when you lower your star rating, you also want to lower your bid price... not increase it. This is best explained in this priceline thread: If You Lower Your Star Rating then Lower Your Bid PriceFeel free to ask any questions you may have, and if you'd like help with a specific strategy, let us know the details of your stay: desired star rating, acceptable zones at each star level, maximum budget, dates, etc... as well as what bids you have already tried. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
