mhva10 Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Thanks for all of the great info in the forum, I've been reading it frequently for the past month, and am finally trying to bid successfully on Priceline. Haven't done so beforeI will be in London 11/21-27 with my 10-year-old daughter. I began bidding by just toying with trying to get a 5* for up to $125 a night, realizing the chances were very low--but thinking if it were successfully, I'd be more than pleased. Have now moved on to 4*, and would appreciate bidding recommendations (as I use the links on the site here). I am likely willing to go up to $100, but based on other posts, am hopefuly $90 may prove successful.Preferred areas (in order; what I most want is to be close to a tube stop, but that's not controllable) are:Kensington-Earl's CourtChelsea-KnightsbridgeMayfair-SohoNotting Hill-BayswaterLast night, I started at $90 for K-EC, C-K, and M-S, rejected; added NH-B still at $90, rejected, though Priceline took a bit longer to respond (any chance I was closer to a winning bid?); then added Bloomsbury-Marble Arch and increased to $95, rejected (again, it took a bit longer for response).Any recommendations for a successful bidding strategy? Many thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can definitely improve upon your bidding so please wait for a strategy before bidding again, but in order to tailor to your needs/wants let us know if you wanted to include Marble Arch in your bidding or not. Also, are you willing to pay more to be in a zone closer to the top of your list vs. the bottom of your list... or is your goal the least expensive 4* or better in any of the listed zones? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding. mhva10 Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 Thanks for the assistance. Include Marble Arch--I think all of these are good areas to be in, so I think I'm looking for the least expensive alternative, with slight preference for the first two areas (Kensington-Earl's Court, Chelsea-Knightsbridge).
thereuare Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Sorry, one more question as i re-read the thread...When you bid yesterday up to $95, that was at the 4* level, correct? (or only 5*) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mhva10 Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 All of that was at 4*. (I had gone $120-$125 for 5* previously.)
thereuare Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 So we're basically trying all the previous zones but adding an extra $5 to the bidding. If i have it correct you can try as follows:When bidding 4* in London you have ONE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Kensington and Chelsea and Bloomsbuy...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair and Notting Hill...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair and Chelsea and Bloomsbuy...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Kensington and Notting Hill...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Kensington and Mayfair and Bloomsbuy...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea and Notting Hill...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Kensington and Mayfair and Chelsea and Notthing Hill and Bloombury...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. mhva10 Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 Thanks for the detailed approach. Unfortunately, it wasn't successful. At the next-to-last step, I did get a screen saying that if I increased my bid by $25, I could rebid with no other changes; but I went back, added the re-bid zone (Wembley) and changed to $100, and still, no success.Should I try the same again in two days?
starbucks Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 I'm looking for a 4* or better hotel in London for a very similar period 11/20-11/26/10, with a similar budget. I was also unsuccessful with this bidding strategy on Priceline. I did find a 4* on Hotwire for $109 per night, but I am a little uncomfortable not knowing what property it is. Can anyone help identify this hotel:Area: Notting Hill, Bayswater4 *Amenities: Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Ctr and High Speed InternetI'm sorry if this is off-topic; perhaps I should have posted in the Hotwire forum. If there is an additional bidding strategy to use on Priceline please advise. I'm willing to pay up to $140 per night for 5* in a convenient location in London for a tourists visiting from California. Thanks for your help.

mhva10 Posted September 7, 2010 Author Report Posted September 7, 2010 Well, taking the limit on my Priceline bid target a bit further, since I received an offer to go up to $120 for a "free" re-bid, I kept bidding--and ended up with the NH Harrington Hall for $105. Just a block or so from the Tube, so I'm happy. Thanks again for your help.
