kunnaman Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Greetings all,I am trying to book a resort on Maui from February 6th to 8th 2011 on Priceline. I've bid up to $160 with no luck. Anyone know what gives? I've seen wins for resorts on that island for $120.Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.P.S. Worry not admins, I've been using the PRICELINE link
kunnaman Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 ***UPDATE***$175 also rejected.
thereuare Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Which zone(s) have you included in your bidding? Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
kunnaman Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 1st) Wailea - Makena2nd) added Kahului3rd) added Kihei4th) added Ka'anapali - LahainaUp to $175. No dice.
thereuare Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Rates are currently high, i'm not sure if there is some event taking place during these dates (i gave a quick look and couldn't find anything which would effect demand too much) or if it's just too early for a great deal. I'd book a cancellable back-up in the meantime and bid once a week or so at this point (more often you'll likely just get frustrated) and this early before your stay i wouldn't expect inventory to appear/disappear that quickly. I'd stick with this gameplan up until ~3 months before your stay. However, i think you can improve upon your bidding a bit... if you let us know your maximum bid we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kunnaman Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 As always, thanks for the great info.My max would be $200.
thereuare Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 As you're using Kahului and Kihei as re-bid zones (always doublecheck them just before bidding) you can improve your strategy as follows:Select Resort Wailea...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect Resort Kaanapali...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect Resort Wailea and Kaanapali...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200The above takes into consideration your previously rejected bids in this zone up to $180 for a Resort class property. If you don't bid for awhile, i would follow the same outline but start with lower prices.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. kunnaman Posted October 5, 2010 Author Report Posted October 5, 2010 I followed this will no success. Any other suggestions or just try again in a few weeks or keep trying?
thereuare Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Unless you're willing to raise your bid or lower your star rating there isn't much else you can do other then wait it out and try again. What is the best rate you're able to find at a Resort class hotel in one of these zones? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
