Data Doctors Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 I'm attending a conference at the JW Marriott from 9/11 - 9/15 and would love to stay there or at any comparable 4* hotel nearby for >$100 per night; any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
yellowdog Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE. You need to be willing to stay at any ?* or higher in the zone you're bidding at.If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive. Please see this link for repoted HOTWIRE hotels: DC Hotwire hotelsLet us know how we can help you further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
thereuare Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Is the (White House - Downtown) zone the only one you're willing to accept, or are other nearby zones (Dupont Circle and/or Convention Center) also acceptable?Have you looked at conventionally booked rates for these nites? If so, what's the best available rate you're able to find, as i did a quick search and i'm guessing that $100 isn't going to be cut it for a 4* property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- please read your messages Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Data Doctors Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 Sorry, I've used PRICELINE many times and didn't mean to assume that I could get that granular....In general, is it best to wait until the day before or the day of to try to get the best deal in cities like DC or is it pretty much the same a week out?
thereuare Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 I wouldn't expect too much fluctuation inside of a week before your stay, but for additional thoughts and a more indepth discussion see the related 'bid early or close to check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.I wouldn't wait until the day before for this stay as i think rates in this zone are going to be much higher then you may realize, so if you wait to the last minute and lowball, you could easily run out of bidding opportunities (then really be scrambling for the best case scenario in other nearby zones)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
