Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

The Fall period is quite expensive in NYC; what would be your desired max budget per night? Which zones would you be interested in staying within?

Additionally, there is no way to guarantee breakfast (or any specific amenity) when bidding on PRICELINE. A few hotels have been seen with a breakfast icon on HOTWIRE at times (look for the breakfast icon to guarantee a hotel with breakfast offered), but there's no guarantee that those listings may be among the ones appearing for your dates.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thanks for your reply. $180-$200 per night. Fine i can live without breakfast but location wise i want to be walking distance to the main centre if possible.

Please look at the PRICELINE map and let us know which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept. For the most part, at the 4* level, MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB all work well for the average visitor. Although i'll point out that if "walkable to center" means you're trying to be near Times Square, there really is no reason to be, as you won't be spending most of your time there. (some parts of the above zones may be 30 minutes to walk to Times Square, but easy enough to get there from most places in these zones (at the 4* level) in 5-10 minutes via subway). See this Hotels Near Times Square thread for further thoughts in this regard.

My guess is that a $200 maximum bid will come up about $25-$50 short, but let us know if the above zones are acceptable and we'll suggest a strategy for you to try.

On a second thought - i have changed my mind. i am happy to stay in a 3*. i have seen a success for Affinia Manhattan around $100. if this hotel is decent and nicely located, then this will mean i will have more cash to spend on my shopping:)

if this is a good hotel, what should be the strategy for this?

Not for these dates! You may see rates ~$100 in NYC during very slow times of year, but i don't think this is realistic for your Fall dates.

As well, you can't bid on a specific property when using PRICELINE. If you're lowering your star rating to 3* a whole new range of possible hotels come into play which have some caveats which you need to be aware of (the footnotes are a problem for some people... not a problem for others); Read reviews of the Hudson Hotel which is a hotel with decent reviews, but has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards), would this be acceptable? What about the location of the Millenium UN... it's about a 15 minute walk to the subway station or 25-30 minutes to Times Square... would this be acceptable?

Are you willing to accept any hotel at the 3* rating in the zone(s) that you select? Which zones are you willing to bid?
