Fly Ryder Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Hiya guys,I have bid for the city centre/museum area and have been rejected at $66 and $77. I done some probing on hotwire and can see 'Amsterdam area east hotel' showing as $89 and $109 respectively. I'm 99% sure this is the Moevenpick Hotel; to be honest this is the one hotel I am trying to avoid.Another hotel on hotwire showing the amenities 'restaurant, laundry' is showing at $142. I understand that this is likely to be one of the NH hotels which would be ideal. What is the best way to bid for the '$142' hotel through priceline, if I bid $120 for example is it possible they would give me the Moevenpick even though the amount is more than hotwire. Or would it be rejected straight out because the $142 one wont accept the offer?Apologies if this has already been answered and many thanks in advance!
BacSi Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 If you bid $120 (and its at or above a current price point) you will get a 4 star in the center. Now what 4 star is anyones guess. $120 is normally above the price point of all 3 four star hotels in play within the Center. So you will get the hotel which has the price point closest to but not above $120.And that hotel could be anyone of the 3 currently in play. There is no pattern as to which 4 star you might get. The same bid amount made over 3 different days can easily get you 3 different hotels.I'd stick to HW if I was you.Just because you see a hotel being won at $78 that does not mean that same hotel could not also have other higher price points.
Fly Ryder Posted August 31, 2010 Author Report Posted August 31, 2010 That makes sense; thanks for your help.
Stinkyxy Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 That makes sense; thanks for your help.was it one of the NH hotels? I am looking for the same thing. Thanks
Fly Ryder Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 was it one of the NH hotels? I am looking for the same thing.ThanksThe three hotels which are in play at the moment is the Moevenpick, NH Carlton and NH Amsterdam Centre.
BacSi Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Fly, exactly why are you trying to avoid the Movenpick? Have you stayed there before? Most reviewers seem to rave about the hotel. Sure its a little more walking to get into the center of things. But most say that walk is not all that big a deal.By all accounts a great hotel.
Fly Ryder Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 Bacsi,The Moevenpick looks a lovely hotel and the walk is minor, I usually rent a bike whenever I go to Amsterdam. The problem is that this hotel (and along with many others) is 100% no smoking. I've even phoned them up and they can't accommodate for smoking guests. The NH hotels however, usually have 1 or 2 floors which are all smoking rooms.I stayed at the NH Barbizon at the beginning of June which I won through Priceline for about $80; nice hotel with everything I wanted, definitely not a 5* but couldn't argue with the price. If it wasn't for the smoking issue I'd take the Moevenpick in a heartbeat for the price it's at at the moment.
Fly Ryder Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 Just another quick question, as hotwire is showing the amenities, 'restaurant, laundry', is there any indication which NH hotel this is; or do both the hotels have the same amenities? I've looked on the hotwire hotel list on this site but no hotel is listed with just these two amenities. Thanks again
yellowdog Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Fly Ryderis there any indication which NH hotel this is;How do you know that this is a NH hotel? None of the NH hotels have been reported as HOTWIRE hotels. Yellowdog.
Fly Ryder Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 Fly RyderHow do you know that this is a NH hotel? None of the NH hotels have been reported as HOTWIRE hotels. Yellowdog.I've assumed it is the NH hotels because of recent successful bids on Priceline. Judging by what you are saying I take it that this has absolutely no bearing on what hotels hotwire offers? If that is the case would you or anybody know which hotels these amenities relate to, 4* city/museum quarter, laundry, restaurant. Thanks again, much appreciated.
yellowdog Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Fly RyderIt could be one of the NH, but it could also be a diffrent hotel. And both NH got the same TA rating so no way to narrow down the specific one. The amenities laundry and restaurant are very common for a 4* hotel so that is not much of a clue.Sorry I could not be of more assistance. If you decide to book this property so please post the outcome.Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
Fly Ryder Posted September 2, 2010 Author Report Posted September 2, 2010 I've just tried rebidding at $80, rejected stating that they would accept an additional $22 bid. Think I'll wait 24hrs and try an $85 bid.
Fly Ryder Posted September 13, 2010 Author Report Posted September 13, 2010 Rejected at $86, I've decided not to go on these dates now. There's no urgency and I'll probably book something in October. Thanks for the help guys.
