Priceline Hotel: Help for a UK newbie looking for a hotel in NYC!

Hi! This is my first post, but I have been looking at this forum for weeks now, trying to find out how to use priceline/hotwire well!

I would really love some advice about how to get a good deal for:

4 people, 2 rooms

6 nights - 29 Oct 10 - 4 Nov 10

New York - Manhattan. Would love to be somewhere central.

Please post your maximum bid price (per room before taxes and fees) and we'll have a look at what might be possible for these dates... i haven't looked at rates yet (will await your reply) but a 'warning' that hotels get very expensive during the Marathon (as well as Halloween for some reason)

Wondering what this really means when I bid, and it's neither accepted or rejected, but says I will know within 15 minutes. I'm told I can click another button to 'check my status' - but every time I've done this my bid has been rejected.

Normally I'm too eager and click within 15 minutes! Would it make a difference if I waited?

Anyone any experience with this or advice?

I would absolutely wait until you get a response from the service before bidding again.
