Okay, our experience with Hotwire has been nothing but good. And this hotel was a really good value for the money ($69 per night). The hotel was clean, professional and the breakfast was incredible. It was centrally located near the city centre, the train station (about 1 km) and not too far from the port, etc. The parking was off-site but right across the street (we'd open our window and see our car) but not free during the day (from 8am to 8pm, it's 2 euros per hour) but we were gone most of the day so it worked out fine (Sundays are also free).

This was the 2nd time we booked with Hotwire (3rd overall) where they did not have down that we had booked a triple. But they were cordial and took care of us. But the room we were to have versus the one we did get were like the difference between night and day (the previous double being brand new, beautiful, with huge LCD TV, excellent new, gigantic bed, gorgeous bathroom, excellent a/c, etc). They must have refurbished only half the rooms cuz the one we got was older, table and dresser were marred, mirrored tops old, refridge didn't work at first and a/c wasn't very good. They did fix the fridge right away though the A/C never never did work great...better. The beds though, were excellent. The bathroom and shower was very nice. And as we said, good service, very clean, very taken care of. By the way, free fruit, candy and newspapers every day. Small bummers included no irons (only a service that was not too expensive 3.90 for a pressed shirt), ice available but only a dish to be carried to the room and no bottled water or drinks/soda to be brought to the room.

Overall, the hotel was a very nice hotel, well taken care of, clean, professional, helpful, nice areas for meeting (which we needed to do), excellent breakfast (really incredible layout...true American style with anything - eggs, bacon, sausage, all sorts of breads, pastries, brioches, cereal, cappuccinos or espressos to your heart's delight, yogurt, diet food, and the fresh fruit was incredible - everything you'd want except maybe omelets and steaks.

Not really free internet...Europe is still behind on this (30 minutes wireless per room per day for free in the lobby...it appears they also have a desktop in the lobby you can use) and through the TV you can pay some good money per day but we just plugged the network line into our mac and we were good to go for free.

If you come here, and you only need a double, make sure to ask for the new rooms (though don't think they have the nice views). We liked our room location (great view out the front to a nice park and that we could see our car) and it had a balcony we couldn't really use cuz there was no door.

Ultimately, by U.S. standards, this would not be considered a 4* hotel like the other NH we stayed in in Rome that had an incredible pool, huge top notch restaurant (the Genova hotel had a little one we never used), and full gym, and to really experience 4* quality at this hotel, you would need to stay in the newer rooms. I'd probably rate it a 3 1/2 * but for $69 or the equivalent of 55 euros a night? It's a steal.
