Priceline Hotel: 3.5* Newport (Goat Island) Hyatt Regency Newport

Was hoping for the Marriott due to hearing it is a better location, but still happy - the lowest advertised price on the website was $199/night. Can't complain about getting $95/night right before a holiday weekend in the summer here!

Also called to request 2 double beds and a crib, and they were very accommodating. Some hotels act snotty about it when they see you booked through Priceline.

Thanks betterbidding! This is a great site.

We actually stayed at the Hyatt in Newport this past Monday night. Quickly, my wife goes back to her Ph.D program (M-F) next week, and I work Wed-Sun, so we'll barely see each other 'til May. We were looking for one last, cheap impulse trip, and were thrilled to get the Hyatt for $80 a night (not counting tax). The unannounced $30 resort fee is completely unacceptable, considering the distance to the downtown area (where parking is far, far cheaper, even in the summer), and the lack of amenities (having coffee and pool towels as part of the $30 fee only makes sense when you provide coffee and pool towels).

We've stayed at the Marriott, Viking and Newport Beach Hotel, and even this Hyatt back in 2007 before the "upgrades," and love each of them. We are never going back to any Hyatt, and may never do name-your-price if we're going to get gouged like this. ** resort masquerading as ***1/2.

We didn't pay a lot, even with the $30, but it was the combination of the surprise and the mediocrity of the hotel that made it not worth it. Luckily Newport being Newport made up for it.

Not only is the resort fee high, but not everything we were promised that was included in this ridiculous fee was working. The movie for kids at 8:30pm never played that night, and the water shuttle was not in operation.

The food here was really bad as well (had an appetizer upon check-in, dessert in the evening, and breakfast the next morning - all pretty bad). Would never chance staying here again.
