mahg33ta Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Hi,Newbie here. Heading to NYC with another couple for a 3-day, 2-night getaway w/o kids.I have volunteered to get us the housing; leaving the other party planning to others.I am looking for: 2 rooms, 2 nights each: 10/21 and 10/22, checking out 10/23.We want 4* and were hoping to spend $300/room/night. I thought this would be budgeting plenty when we came up with these plans, based on prior trips to NY. But, prices are HIGH and I'm a little daunted. I continue to hunt, as the guy responsible for this - found this website, read the intro stuff, and am looking for a bidding strategy. Thanks in advance.
AaronJB Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)What areas of the city would you be interested in staying? The cheapest 4* I'm seeing on HOTWIRE is $295, which would be possibly either the Grand Hyatt or Intercontinental Barclay. I'm also seeing what MAY be the Distrikt or New Yorker Ramada Plaza for $259. I think you could get a 4* in Midtown within your price range on PRICELINE, but it may be towards the high end of your range. The newer Ace is $269 on Travelocity, and there are two 4* "Top Secret" properties on Travelocity for $220 and $260.Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mahg33ta Posted August 23, 2010 Author Report Posted August 23, 2010 oops! I actually went through all of the zones and made a list, but in the excitement of posting I forgot it. What a noob.Midtown East, Midtown West, Times Square/Theatre, and Central Park South are the zones we want to stay in.I would be fine with the Hyatt or Intercontinental. When I checked their previously it was $330-ish, if I recall. Maybe it's changed and I will look again. Thanks!

mahg33ta Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 one last question - I understand the zones are interchangeable and mixing them up gets us the various combos for the rebidding. But, if I have a priority as to, all else equal, where I'd like to be, should I start with those? In other words, in the plan designed above, are MTE and MTW considered the most likely since I lead off with them? If my top priority is different, can I swap them around (understanding I need to keep the relationships the same, just "substituting" variables)
thereuare Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Yes, within each 'pair' you can bid the second zone combination first and the first zone combination second. As that sounds confusing, by example, instead of:Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected cose browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected cose browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINEyou could bid...Select 4* TS and CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected cose browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected cose browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINEPlease use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck! mahg33ta Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 any guesses on what a 4-star Chelsea / MSG hotel on HOTWIRE would be?the amenities are the same as the windham fashion 26 so maybe that got upgraded?
AaronJB Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Please provide the amenities showing and we will have a look.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

mahg33ta Posted September 9, 2010 Author Report Posted September 9, 2010 purely as an FYI to any reading, I am plugging away at this - have gotten up to $275 in all desired zones with no luck. Willing to go to $300 but also willing to wait it out a bit (not sure if that will help or hurt)also FYI for my desired plan there are 5 rebid zones, not 6: brooklyn, coney, long isl city, MSG, and Upper East.
AaronJB Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 I'm seeing a 4* in "Midtown" for $263 for these dates (and another for $296) on Travelocity under the "Top Secret" section. Please use the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or Travelocity links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 also FYI for my desired plan there are 5 rebid zones, not 6: brooklyn, coney, long isl city, MSG, and Upper East. There were six re-bid zones when bidding 4* in NYC, but very recently Chelsea adding 4* bidding which is why now there are only FIVE re-bid zones. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Any thoughts on what this is? (I checked the master list in the forum but couldn't find that zone listed - perhaps new?)
AaronJB Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 This is a new zone, and no hotels have yet been reported to the board. I'll guess that Ink48 is a POSSIBLE 4* in the HK zone, but again, no hotels in this zone have been confirmed/reported.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
