hankhunter Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 We have been bidding for over a week now trying to get a good deal on a 4* hotel in San Francisco for the night of October 8th. We have now gone as high as $145 which nets out to about $175. I have provided our two most recent bidding attempts below and they have all been rejected. I have seen successful bids much lower than this on this board. Am I doing somehting wrong? Are we bidding too early? Should I clear my cookies? I have read that this may help the bidding process. At this point, we have booked the Westin on the Market directly for $200 as a backup plan (listed on Priceline at $339). I was hoping to secure a much better deal through Priceline, but at this point, a $25 savings does not seem worthwhile since I would have to give up getting Starwood points, etc.If anyone can provide some advice on how I might secure a better deal via Priceline or other means, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bid1 Bid2 4*Financial District - $90 $100Fisherman’s Wharf - $100 $110Soma - $110 $130Union Square East - $120 $120Union Square West - $130 $135Marina - Lombard - $135 $140Civic Centre - $140 $1453
yellowdog Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Please follow-up your previous Priceline Canada thread with whatever you ended up doing for that stay... then bump this thread and we'll have a look at the above.Allways follow-up your threads with whatever you end up doing, even if you chose to book direct, cancell your trip, etc. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.

thereuare Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 We ended up booking direct with Best Western in Edmundston...Please note that we're affiliated with Best Western and many others. Please use the links at our support pageAt this point, we have booked the Westin on the Market directly for $200 as a backup planWe have a link to the Westin in the support pageI'm guessing a 4* could be had for a bit more than you have already bid... perhaps $150-$165 or so; a 3.5* for ~$110-$125... a 3* for ~$75-$85.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Gallus50 Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 hh - You may be a bit early for PL, but not for HOTWIRE and lastminutetravel.com. HOTWIRE has the 3* Harbor Court for $90 - well reviewed, good location and a decent price. LMT has lots of choices, and if you look at the post by BEAV in Off Topic that says Lastminutetravel - Tool for Identifying Hotel , you can pretty much ID every last one of them. (They include the Hyatt in the Embarcadero for $95 or so.) Take care to only choose "Available" hotels, unless you don't mind waiting a 48 hour period to hear back. Personally, I'd do LMT and know what I'm getting. Their prices look pretty good and you won't have to wait. But you might get something cheaper on PL eventually. Let us know what you decide.
hankhunter Posted August 24, 2010 Author Report Posted August 24, 2010 Thanks for the LMT tip, Gallus. I attempted to get the Hyatt for $95, but, as an "on request" listing, I was unsuccessful. I will continue to pursue other options through LMT, HOTWIRE and PRICELINE. I will let you know what happens. Thanks again.
