ChrisBauer Posted August 16, 2010 Report Posted August 16, 2010 Hi all,I just found this website today after googling something along the lines of "how to beat priceline".Just booked a one night stay in the Omni William Penn for $110, and first off want to say thanks to everyone in this community who made this site and put up all this info, it just made my Pittsburgh trip next weekend MUCH better and MUCH cheaper :) I wanted a 4* in the downtown zone, and so I read over THIS entire post, and thought I understood it. So I did my research and found that over the past 6 months most people paid around $60-70 for this hotel, so I tried starting at $55 which was rejected, and increased by $1 each time after that. However as I kept adding zones, PL didn't let me "uncheck" zones that I had already included in my criteria - So it seemed that I only had a maximum of ten "instant re-bids". Looking back, should I have tried to hit the back button on my browser? I did try hitting back once, but when I did, *ALL* the zones then became "greyed out", and so from then on I just instantly re-bid from the rejection screen they gave me. So... after a few more rejected re-bids I found myself in a situation where I only had 3 more instant tries left, and was already up to $82. Next tried $90, then $100, then finally at $110 and it was accepted, on my last try. It seems that the price is just high this coming weekend (8/21-8/22), probably due to some event in the area? I had seen an earlier post for Pittsburgh saying a Paul McCartney concert had eaten up hotel rooms and pushed up prices.FYI, I'm aware that I could have just paused during my bidding session and come here and posted questions, however I would have been (and am still) very glad to pay $110 for this room, and since that was my bid it appears this really is (roughly) the lowest they'll sell it for.I was going to use your PRICELINE link, but forgot to, sorry! Thanks,Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $110.00 (USD)Number of Rooms: 1Number of Nights: 1Room Subtotal: $110.00 (USD)Taxes and Fees: $24.11 (USD)Total Room Cost: $134.11 (USD)
