Priceline Hotel: 4* SOMA area - 9/23/10 - 9/27/10

I'm new to this, interested in a 4* hotel in the soma area - 9/23/10 to 9/27/10, can anyone give a ballpark figure as far as starting bids etc _ retail prices for these dates range from $180 to $250. thanks

avg retail rate for 4 * hotels in the area is around $200 (estimate) that weekend (9/23 to 9/27), my goal would be to pay 40% to 50% off retail price . Is that unrealistic? I placed an initial bid of $85 which was rejected...

I have a flexible budget but of course want to save as much as possible....thanks

Before bidding again...

Is SOMA the only zone you're willing to accept? There may be other nearby zones (USE, USW, etc) which have cheaper hotels, and adding more zones increases the number of hotels available to accept your bid. Of course if your plans work best in SOMA then you shouldn't include other zones in your bidding, but if you're flexible, you may be able to do better if you include other nearby downtown zone(s).

thanks, I could expand my search to include 4 * hotels in the Union Square East area. I was planning to do just this later on , I do have several weeks until my trip (9-23 to 9-27). I still have hope that something will emerge in the soma area. I will take any 4* in soma, but ideally, I would prefer the W or Westin Market St...regards

I would appreciate help identifying 4 star hotel in the USE with the following amenities

fitness center

pool

restaurant

business center

high speed internet service

I suspect W based on the pool, however would appreciate if someone could confirm this. Rate $158 per night

So to confirm... you're willing to pay more to stay in the SOMA zone? (vs. the USE zone)

If you prefer the SOMA zone then by all means we'll stick with that, and if unsuccessful we can include USE later on in the bidding process... but since you're new to bidding, just wanted to make sure you realized that you might get a lower/better price by including more zones.

So to confirm... at this time your maximum bid is ~$120? The HOTWIRE hotel above is $158/nite... are you willing to pay this much for a 4* hotel at this time?

For now will continue to focus on the SOMA zone, however, eventually will expand my search to include USE. I now want to consider going with hotwire as well. If I can ID a hotel, I may prefer to pay a little more to have a reasonable idea where I am staying.

$158 HOTWIRE price for the W would be acceptable to me , as retail price is around $230...however, is it the W??....

As far as PRICELINE and bids, two major hotels chains in the SOMA zone have retail price under $200 for my dates (as per their websites) so I'm inclined to think bidding $150 may be too much. I would appreciate your input.
