ratski Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 HI there,Im from the uk and totally new to all this.Im looking for a 4* plus hotel in Oct 7th - 9th, in the USW areaI have checked the list of possibles from your maps and they all look greatNow do i just go ahead and bid? I will probably bid about
Gallus50 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 On PL, you are guaranteed comfortable sleep arrangements for two with each bid, but no more. You don't really need to worry about getting a room w/just one twin bed. If you have 3 or 4 people, you might have a problem. But 2 should be fine. If your bids are rejected, you can book elsewhere or keep bidding daily. When it's busy - as October usually is in SF - the typical answer is book a cancellable backup and bid as long as you can. Most 4*s will, arguably, be as nice as the Parc 55 and the Nikko. (I've stayed at the Nikko. It was nice, but not incredible. Room was small; fitness room and pool were great.)Please read FAQs on this board to become an informed bidder and take advantage of rebids. Check regular rates and check calendar of wins here on BB to see what people have gotten for your dates. Figure out your max, bid up to it in small inredments using rebids, and see what happens. Let us know when something does.
yellowdog Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 ratskiWelcome to BetterBidding :) Any tips to get a hotel like parc 55 or nikko would be great. You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE. You need to be willing to stay at any 4* or higher in the zone you're bidding at.Maybe HOTWIRE is an option for you. If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive.Use this link for reported SF hotels: Hotwire San Francisco Hotels Let us know how we can help you further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
ratski Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 ok so a little update on my progressstarted at
Gallus50 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 ratski - PRICELINE is all about supply and demand. Sept/Oct just happen to be one of the busiest times in SF, which means PRICELINE discounts are not as substantial as they are at other times of the year. I've scored a $55 Westin room at SFO when the rack rate was $219 and a $70 Hotel Nikko room when regular rates were also about @219. I've also had to pay rack rate at a 2* in September because no bids were accepted within my budget. In general, the system is pretty brilliant and it almost always works to your advantage, within its parameters.
