Ouch! I feel your pain. There's apparently something big going on the weekend I'm trying for Monterey, too. I'm about to give up and switch to a different weekend.

There seems to be a Motorsport Reunion this weekend. Not sure if that's the big event filling the hotels or not.

I stayed in MRY last weekend and can tell you that the hotel I was in Sat, HI Express Seaside, was completely sold out Fri and Sat. Additionally, all IC properties were sold out in the area at least Sat including Salinas 20 minutes away.

Being that a Hotwire search for MRY, 8/13-15, is showing 2-3.5 properties for $250-$450/night ... seems most properties with rooms available are down to their last few rooms.

MRY area is a very popular summer weekend spot.
