Hi, I have been reading these boards like crazy and looking at hotel reviews as well as looking on HOTWIRE. We are trying to get a decent hotel in the Mission Bay area or Shelter or Harbor Island. OUr budget is no more than $100 per night and that needs to include the praking fees if any. I saw a 3 star SeaWorld Mission Bay Shelter Island description on Hotwire and was wondering if that was the Best Western Island Palms? I see that others have won at the Omni and Hyatt which are okay but they do have a 24.00 night parking fee. Any recomendations would be appreciated on bidding.

Please provide the amenities showing with the listing and we would be happy to try to help ID the hotel.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

The amenities listed are no additional resort fees, pool, restaurant on site, laundry, swimming pool and high speed internet. It is showing $72 a night right now on Hotwire.

You have listed Pool two times. I guess the amenitie combo should look like this Pool, Restaurant, Laundry, HS Internet. Is this correct?

Did you note the 2.5/5 tripadvisor rating? And HOTWIRE only got 55% satifaction.

Well with those ratings what would you suggest then?
The question is, are you ok with the ratings? They don't look very good to me. I'm very easy going when it comes to hotels but i would stay away from this. What do you say?
Can you help guide me on bidding on a different hotel then?
Sure, do you see any other hotel within your budget you would like to go for?

Let us know how we can help you further.

I agree with you that stars are not as important as ratings. For example on trip advisor, the 2* Comfort Inn in Mission Bay/Sea World Area is getting high reviews. Is this one that we can get good rates on via hotwire or priceline? We are wanting to stay in Mission Beach/Bay area but see there are not as many choices on the priceline map as there are on hotwire. On Hotwire there is a 3* Sea World Mission Bay/Shelter Island that was 89.00 earlier and is now 92. but has comp breakfast, fitness center, pool, laundry, High Speed Internet, Golf nearby and tennis nearby and rated 70% by users. Do you know what this one might be and can it be bid on using priceline to try and get a lower bid? Otherwise, I would like to try and bid on the Sheraton San Diego on Harbor Island, the Hilton on Harbor Island or one on Shelter Island. We are a family of 4 with two adults and two kids (7 and 3). We would be arriving on August 26th and leaving on August 29th.

Let's back up a moment as few things you need be clear about what you can and can't sure with PRICELINE and/or HOTWIRE...

We are a family of 4...
PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, which means you could receive a room with only one bed in it. You can call the hotel after you know the name and request a room with 2 beds, but the hotel could be unable, or unwilling, to accommodate your request. Is this a risk you're willing to accept?

If you want to ensure sleeping accommodations for your entire family you'll need to use HOTWIRE and search for quad occupancy, and doing so may present different offerings and/or increase the price. Have you been using quad occupancy on your searches above?

OUr budget... needs to include the praking fees if any.
As you won't know the name of the hotel until after your purchase, there is no way to know the parking fees, if any, the hotel will change. Best you can do is take a reasonable guess as to how much parking is in the area, deduct that from your maximum bid amount, and bid accordingly. Keep in mind there may also be alternate parking garages in the area, apart from the hotel, which would be cheaper than the hotel. On most city listings HOTWIRE now does list a range for parking fees so you'll be able to factor this into your budget (click CONTINUE next to an offering and then scroll to the bottom of the page, in the "Know Before Your Go" section you'll see related parking charges)

I was looking at the 3* downtown harbor island area hotel for 8/26-8/29 and is listed at $103 a night. The amenities are shuttle, fitness, pool, restaurant, business center, laundry, internet access. got 85% in customer reviews.

I also am looking at the 4* downtown harbor island for the same dates and is listed at 119.00 a night. The amenities are non=smoking, fitness, pool, restaurant, business and high speed access. they have 90% reviews.

Thanks

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread... if you ultimately use HOTWIRE we'll move the entire thread to that section of the board.

The 3* matches previous reports for the Holiday Inn San Diego - On the Bay while the 4* matches the Westin San Diego, so that would be my best guess for each.
