padronlover Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 I'm trying to book the best hotel I can in New York City from 9/2 - 9/9.I have tried to select zones as close to Soho as possible by including all the way up Central Park South and Midtowns.I have also tried Hoboken, NJ.My result is FAIL. I don't know if it's because my length is so long (1 whole week), but I can't seem to get any of my bids accepted. Any suggestions?I have employed the strategy and started out my bids from $90 all the way up to $140 for the 3.5* and 4* hotels.I don't even understand why my bid of $140 for 4* at Hoboken, NJ didn't get accepted b/c the Westin is $156 on Hotwire...

Please let me know what advice you have. As my budget is $150/night
padronlover Posted August 9, 2010 Author Report Posted August 9, 2010 I noticed that for Hoboken, NJ 4*, the 9/2-9/7 were $137 for the Westin vs. 9/7-9/9 which was $250!So I tried to split my bids and try to get 4* for 9/2-9/7 and my bids up to $101 didn't work. I don't understand why $101 won't work for a hotel that costs $137 on PRICELINE regularly??
AaronJB Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 The hotel may not have any PRICELINE inventory or may only have minimally discounted inventory. HOTWIRE has no 4* in the Hoboken-Jersey City area for 9/2-7, only a regular rate (from Hotels.com) listing for the Westin for $137. Is your budget $150 "all-in" (w/taxes-fees) or $150 + taxes/fees?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I don't understand why $101 won't work for a hotel that costs $137 on PRICELINE regularly??The $137 rate is an already discounted rate direct from Westin and some hotels have a 'floor' which they want to keep rates above no matter how many empty rooms the hotel may have. I would try going as high as $110 OR just book the 'non-opaque' $137/nite rate. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (or our direct link to the Westin or Hotels.com if you go that route)Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. padronlover Posted August 10, 2010 Author Report Posted August 10, 2010 My budget is more or less $150 including tax. But I could go a little higher.I tried bidding just for 9/2-9/7 for 4* Hoboken, NJ up to $110 using your link, no luck. I think I might just have to spend $137.Also, 9/7-9/9 is SUPER EXPENSIVE, for instance the same Hoboken, NJ 4* Westin that costs $137/night costs $250+Should I just suck it up and pay 9/2-9/9, which is $157? Or should I get 9/2-9/7 for $137 and then try to find another hotel for 9/7-9/9?I've heard Hoboken, NJ 4* hotels that are right next to PATH station are perfect for touring New York. Please let me know!
thereuare Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 I would bid up to $130 on PRICELINE for a 4* Hoboken/Jersey City hotel... try to shave a few dollars off the price of the Westin if you can (you'll need it for the next 2 nites :) ). If unsuccessful for a bid price which would equal the purchase of the Westin, then just take the $137/nite rate for 9/2-9/7.For 9/7-9/9, i would seek out another hotel... if you're going to be paying ~$200/nite i would try to spend that money on a Manhattan hotel. HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the ESB zone for $215/nite... the 3.5* rated Doubletree in the Chelsea zone for $206/nite, and the 3* Midtown Central Holiday Inn 57th St for $193/nite. You can choose one of these OR try to bid for these 2 nites via PRICELINE.PLEASE use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.
