kmc33 Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 I am looking at hotels for Universal area for 3 nights 11/11- 11/14. A 4* hotel for Universal Orlando - I-drive North area Hotel is coming up $86 for those dates. Based on what the Orlando list for Universal I thought it was the Crowne Plaza or the Doubletree at the entrance to Universal. However, when I look at those same dates in Hotwire vacations (hotel + car), both the Crowne Plaza and the Doubletree are listed as 3-1/2 *.Do you have any idea what hotel this may be, or is it possible the star ratings vary between hotel only and hotel+car vacation packages? Thanks! Kim

yellowdog Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 kmc33Best guess would be Crown Plaza. However, when I look at those same dates in Hotwire vacations (hotel + car), both the Crowne Plaza and the Doubletree are listed as 3-1/2 *.They use a diffrent rating system and zones for the hotels. So you can't rely on that. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link, and let us know how it goes or if you need any additional help with your stay.Yellowdog.PS. Please follow-up this thread with whatever you end up doing, even if you chose to book direct, cancell your trip, etc.
kmc33 Posted August 12, 2010 Author Report Posted August 12, 2010 Update:I just checked HOTWIRE today (using your link :) ). It is still showing a 4* with the same amenities I previously posted. Today the price is $89. In the meantime I have decided that I probably will NOT select this hotel. I have made a reservation directly with the Doubletree at Universal for a better price that is cancellable up to 72 hours in advance. As we get into the fall, I am going to check HOTWIRE again. I will start a new thread if I start pursuing another HOTWIRE option. Thanks for the help. This site is great!
AaronJB Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Please use the site's Doubletree or Hilton link in the Travel/Support section to book regular rate. Additionally, you could look on Expedia to see if coupon code RELAX10 ($10 off per night) would also work. Please use the site's Expedia link if you decide to go this route.Thank you for keeping us updated on what you decide, and please let us know if you have any questions.
kmc33 Posted August 13, 2010 Author Report Posted August 13, 2010 Thank you! I am most likely going to cancel the Doubletree reservation. At first I wasn't planning to get a car and now I may; parking at Doubletree is $12/night. I am definitely not going to bid on the 4* in this posting (although I did see someone booked a *4 with the same amenities and it was the Crown Plaza as suspected).I am going to start a new thread because I have a am wondering about a different hotel. Thanks!
kmc33 Posted August 13, 2010 Author Report Posted August 13, 2010 Hi,Okay I have switched courses. I am thinking about a 3* level hotel. I am curious about one showing on Hotwire:3 nights Nov 11-143* Universal Orlando - I-drive North area Hotel - $42PoolRestaurantHi-speed InternetRecommended in 95 % of Hotwire customer reviews Any guesses on what hotel this may be?Also, I have searched Hotwire vacations and have found some reasonable hotel+car combos. I may go that route because think Hyatt Place may be a good fit for us (3 nights 11/11-14 with compact car for $364.95). I have been using your HOTWIRE link for my searches. Is that the best link to use to book a Hotwire vacation too? Thanks again for all of the assistance. :) Kim

kmc33 Posted October 17, 2010 Author Report Posted October 17, 2010 Thank you for your reply. I had a feeling it had not been reported b/c it did not seem to match exactly with any reported on the list. As for what I am looking for... I am having trouble deciding. This is basically a quick trip for my 11 y.o. son and I to go to the Universal parks and see the new Harry Potter. On one hand, I am holding a reservation (refundable at the Doubletree) for which I got a good rate. I thought it would be nice to walk to the parks. But I keep waffling between keeping that and going for a HOTWIRE or PRICELINE deal for less money and a car for convenience which together would cost about the same or less than the Doubletree reservation.I will be sure to follow-up with what I decide... either keep current reservation or with details of a HOTWIRE or PRICELINE purchase. Thanks for all the help. Kim
