weiser701 Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 I first started bidding for a 4* hotel Thursday 8/5/10 but was unsuccessful after several bids. I started with $55 since that was a popular winning bid that resulted in the Hyatt Regency. I continued on to $60, $63, and finally $65, going down the list of different zones that don't have 4* hotels. I had no success that night. I tried again the following morning, this time starting with different zones but at $55 again. I continued up to $72 this time, but again no success. Now that I've used several zones within a 24 hour period already I decided to wait and try again late afternoon the next day (Saturday). I began at $55 again, following the same bidding pattern and eventually finding success at $70. Like other member mentioned who won with these slightly higher prices, I believe the rates are higher because of certain events taking place and/or the itinerary consisting of weeknights in an area popular with weekday travel. I could have held out a little longer and kept trying for something closer to $55 (it's quite possible Hyatt will release more of those rates between now and then) but the peace of mind is worth the $45 :) I wanted the room locked up. And I"m curious about the Hotel Monaco. I've already stayed in plenty of hotels like the Hyatt Regency but never anything like the Monaco. I'm not much of an artsy or trendy guy so we'll see how I fit in. I like the change of scenery so I'm glad I ended up with this hotel. I had suspicions the particular day could have some bearing on what price you get or if you have any success at all and it seems that might be true (at least in my situation). $70 didn't work Friday morning but it worked for me Saturday afternoon. I'm not saying Saturday is a good day to bid. It just tells you that hotels can either designate certain rates for certain days with PRICELINE or they're simply not active all the time. Thanks for all the postings and advice from fellow members and BB admin! :)I just used the PRICELINE link found in the admin's posts but I also could have used the link found in the Travel Links tab.
weiser701 Posted August 8, 2010 Author Report Posted August 8, 2010 I also want to note that I was originally trying for 9/18/10 thru 9/22/10 but I think Saturday night was the hangup. However, I want to be clear that I did use the same itinerary when $70 didn't work the day before I was successful with it. Saturday night just wasn't working with any of the bids. And now after I have the other winning itinerary I've tried just Saturday night for a 4* Downtown and still nothing. I'll keep trying for a while since I'd kind of like to try out another 4* for the first night. If that doesn't work then I'll just try to add that night through Priceline's "Extend Your Stay" feature.
AaronJB Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Congrats on your success. :)Excellent deal for this property, which hasn't been seen all that often as a win. Thank you for sharing your bidding history and thoughts, as well. This is a Kimpton property, which also offers a free wine reception at night, too. Let us know what you decide in regards to extending your stay and if you have any questions.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
