Hello,

fortunately I just found this board and I hope you can help me.

I'm coming from Germany and I will visit NYC for the first time from Sep 16th till 22nd.

Currently I'm searching for a hotel in Manhattan and I've read a lot in this board about the bidding strategys.

However my biddings have not been successful, yet. I've bid from 160$ up to 190$ for all areas below Central Park for a 3* hotel.

Is this time frame from Sep 16th till 22nd so expensive that 190$ are much too low?

Do you have any ideas how I could find a room for my budget of about 190$ (or less)?

Or do you know any other offers besides Priceline?

On Hotwire I found the World Center Hotel for 229$ and Holiday Inn for 224$, however I would prefer a bit cheaper price (somewhat below 200$).

I would really appreciate if you have any hints for me.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Sandra

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

This is certainly an expensive/busy time period in the city. If you have bid up to $190 for a 3* and it has not been accepted in any of the zones below Central Park, then unfortunately the only choices are to either bid a little higher for the 3* level, or consider the 2.5* level, although hotels at that level (and especially below that level, and bidding for below 2.5* in NYC isn't recommended) may be inconsistent in terms of quality.

You could try breaking up your stay, as well, although these dates do look pretty busy across the board, and keeping within your desired budget may still prove a bit difficult. That's still worth considering, though, if continued bidding for the entire stay does not work.

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

We would rather not break up our stay because I think it would be more comfortable to stay in one hotel and loose to much time while checking out and in once more.

Do you think the chance is higher if we try to bid every day? Will the prices vary much? Or is the remaining time too short until mid of September and we should book a hotel the usual way?

Checking Hotwire I found two alternatives for about 230$:

1. the World Center Hotel in SoHo 3,5*

and

2. the Holiday Inn in Midtown Central 3*

Which one do you think is the better choice? The World Center Hotel seems to have better comments on tripadvisor as it's quite new.

The Holiday Inn is however closer to Midtown and we could see more by walking?

However I would prefer if we could find a hotel below 200$. So if you have any ideas you would be highly welcome. :)

If you continue to try PRICELINE you should bid every day in hopes of catching a a price drop in the hotel's PRICELINE rate, but bidding daily isn't necessarily going to increase your chances in the sense that the hotel will eventually agree to accept your rate because you've asked so often.

You still have plenty of time, but regardless of the time issue, i assume any hotel direct rates you find will be over your $200/nite budget, at which point of you would likely get more hotel for your money by trying PRICELINE / HOTWIRE at your increased budget.

You just listed the trade-off of each, so it depends what you're more intersted in.. a hotel with better reviews vs. a more convenient location.
