Hotwire Hotel: Travel to San Francisco 9/11/10 - 9/14/10

My husband and I are coming to San Francisco and staying from 9/11/10 - 9/14/10.

Looking at a 3.5 - 4 star in USE, USW, SOMA, Embarcadero.

I am new to this and would appreciate advice.

Also, I am hoping to bid and pay for accomodation from New Zealand.

I see some problems with Canadian Visa payments reported, has anyone heard about problems with paying from New Zealand with a Visa card?

Or problems with using an NZ address?

Or any other problems I can't imagine yet?

Is it possible to use Priceline or Hotwire from New Zealand?

What would be your desired budget per night? Are there any listings of interest when searching on HOTWIRE?
