Fabfrugal Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Could you please help with a bidding strategy for 3* or better DC hotels that are within a mile to the metro from 09/06-09/08 for not more than $8. We will be flying into BWI and taking a train to NYC so we will not have a car. I bid on 3* and 4* with in the areas directly around the White House (sections 5, 8, 9 and 14) with a max of $75 for the 4* and $60 for the 3* with no luck. I love your forum. Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Could you please help with a bidding strategy for 3* or better DC hotels that are within a mile to the metro from 09/06-09/08 for not more than $8.Please confirm your maximum bid price... should that read $80??I bid on 3* and 4* with in the areas directly around the White House (sections 5, 8, 9 and 14) with a max of $75 for the 4* and $60 for the 3* with no luck. Please indicate the zones you have bid by PRICELINE name, not number, as this will avoid any confusion and also make the thread more persistent as the zone boundaries and names change and/or are re-ordered.I assume the zones you bid all meet your requirement of within a mile of the metro? Did yo not bid the 3.5* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Fabfrugal Posted August 7, 2010 Author Report Posted August 7, 2010 Yes, I did mean $80. Sorry, my keyboard is having issues. These are the areas I bid: Convention Ctr - Capitol Hill area DC Suburbs - Northeast Area Dupont Circle - Woodley Park Details Georgetown - Foggy Bottom Details Georgetown North Details White House - Downtown Details I did bid the 3.5* at $75. Thanks for your help.
Fabfrugal Posted August 7, 2010 Author Report Posted August 7, 2010 Okay, so I bid for one night (09/06) and won the Renaissance for $70. I tried extending my stay at this hotel for the same price, but they said it would be $98. I think I will take it as we have a visit to the White House the next morning unless you know of another way to get this hotel for lower. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 There are three different Renaissance properties in the Washington DC metro area, can you please indicate the star rating, zone and location of the one which you received.Assuming the hotel direct rate of the Renaissance is more than the $98 counter-offer when you tried to extend your stay i would just take it... for convenience sake you will be near your desired location for the following day (i'm assuming based upon the comments in your post above) as well as not having to deal with changing properties on a 2 nite stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Fabfrugal Posted August 8, 2010 Author Report Posted August 8, 2010 It is a Marriot property: Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel located on 999 Ninth St. NW. 4* (although rated 3-1/2* on other sites). Thanks again for your help. We went ahead and booked the second night.
thereuare Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Thanks for the follow-up... glad to see you're happy enough with the results to have extended your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
