njjill23 Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Hi all:I use PRICELINE often for hotels, using the link from this forum, but I have never used it to bid on airfare. Based on my satisfaction with PRICELINE on hotels, thought I might give it a try. I am looking to fly from EWR to Copenhagen on Sept 6, returning on October 1. I have found nonstop airfare for $794.00, which I believe is a great price, but would of course, be happier for getting an even cheaper airfare. Any recommedations on a price? My purpose of this posting is to also confirm that when I make my bid, it includes ALL taxes and fees, other than the $7 or $8 priceline fee? I have read prior posts on this board years ago when people could determine what the fare and tax /fees breakdowns were when they placed their bids, but I no longer see how to do that? Is that no longer possible? Is there any way to try and find out what your flight will be (nonstop versus connection) using the taxes/fees information like people recommended in the past?Any help is greatly appreciated!
thereuare Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 For International travel you place your bid including taxes (so your total should be your bid price plus ~$7.50 booking fee) where as domestic travel is excluding a booking fee. After you input the bid price and click the "NEXT" button (before you submit your credit card info) PRICELINE will show you the maximum price you will be charged if your bid is accepted. For the $794 rate above, what is the breakdown between base fare and taxes/fees?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Yes, it's possible that you can do better then the "best deal" as told by PRICELINE. HOWEVER, DO NOT enter a lower price into the box on the page you reference above as there have been some reports of the price not being recognized by PRICELINE and them simply booking you at their 'recommended' rate.I agree that $30/ticket is not worth the savings, but how much would you need to save to make an opaque airfare ticket worthwhile? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
