damnh1959 Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 4* Ottawa Check in 8/12/2010 Check out 8/14/20101 room, 2 adultsWe used the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to access the sites each time.My wife and I did research across the forums and across both the Hotwire and Priceline sites.Hotwire posted a 4* property @ $89 per night with the following amenities:Smoke Free,Fitness Ctr.,Pool,Restaurant,Business Ctr.,Laundry,Internet Access, and Golf Nearly (Childen's Activities came up later in expanded menu)Hotwire also posted a 3 1/2* property @$73 per night with the following amenities:Boutique Hotel,Fitness Ctr.,Restaurant,Business Ctr.,and Internet AccessBy comparing this against the forum lists, we speculated that the 4 star might be the Marriott, with an outside chance at the Westin, and the 3 1/2 star would be the Arc Hotel.Unfortunatly, there was no bid history recently in the Calendar of Wins in the last 2 weeks to compare ( ran dates July 25th to August 6th).Unfortunatly, our bid of $70 was rejected. It was suggested that we increase our bid $15 (to $85). Our thoughts were towards taking the secure Hotwire deal. We are considering a re-bid.Any suggestions are appreciated. This is a terrific site, and we have only begun to use it. Thanks to everyone for all the great information and feedback.
damnh1959 Posted August 6, 2010 Author Report Posted August 6, 2010 We will potentially look more seriously at a re-bid.Pricing on Hotwire increased another $5 on each property as we refreshed the screen.
thereuare Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Was your $70 bid at the 3.5* or 4* level? The counter-offer at $85 is basically telling you that you'll likely be successful somewhere between $71 and $88.When bidding 4* or 3.5* in this area you do have THREE re-bid zones available so it comes down to whether you'd like to use these to increase your bids toward the $88 level for any 4* hotel in the zone (assuming it was a 4* bid that you made) vs. the 'known' guess of the Marriott/Westin via HOTWIRE.Let us know your thoughts as to how you'd like to proceed and/or how it goes. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
