Hotwire Hotel: 4* San Francisco (USE) W Hotel

Hi I have tried bidding in USW up to $110. I think this may be too low as hotel prices on other sites seem to be high possibly due to some conventions in the area. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for starting bids and how high I should reasonably go. I think I read in another thread someone got up to $140 without any luck.

Would it be better to break up the stay into 2 stays? If so, how should I break it up? Weekend vs weekdays? Or Tues to Thurs/Thurs-Sunday?

There is a deal for $126 for 8/19-8/22 at a 4.5* that the forum identified as the Intercontinental. Is this a better deal than what I can get on priceline? Has anyone stayed there? Is it too far from Union Square?

Any opinions or bidding advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think our max desired budget is $150 but if hotel prices are such that we have to go higher we will.

The hotwire hotel was 4.5*, it is now listed at $139

What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel for this stay?

If you go to Expedia and search for your complete stay, is there generally a major price difference for a particular date or set of dates within this range?

PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper then HOTWIRE, but with HOTWIRE you have the ability to take a guess as to what hotel may be the one offered. If you bid 4* on PRICELINE you could probably get a hotel for a little less, but it may or may not be the same property that HOTWIRE is offering... are you looking specifically for the InterContinental or would you be content with any 4* hotel in the zone?

I have merged your threads... please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.

For the HOTWIRE hotels have you tried to identify any of them on your own by finding any matches in the Hotwire Hotel List?

I was ultimately unsuccessful bidding on priceline. I think it's just a function of the time of the month as it seems like most hotels are pricey (checking on Expedia), especially for 8/17 to 8/19. I honestly was not looking for any hotel in particular, just something in union square area.

On PRICELINE:

I bid up to $150 for USE, and then for USW separately for 8/17 to 19.

I bid up to $145 for USE for 8/19 to 22 and then gave up since Hotwire had some 4* hotels listed for around those prices. As well, it would be nice not to have to switch hotels during the stay.

So I wound up using HOTWIRE and got the W hotel which was listed as 4* Fitness, Pool, Business Centre, Restaurant, internet for $143/night for the entire stay (8/17-22). On Expedia this hotel was quoted at $288/night for the same time period so I guess it's a good price.
