Long time lurker first time poster,

Looking for some id help for a 3 star Mag. Mile Streeterville area, for Aug. 8,9, and 10. Amenities include fitness, pool, restaurant, business center, laundry, internet access. Family trip which doesn't count as a trip if the property doesn't have a pool (at least that is what the kids say). My guess was Holiday Inn Mart - but I am not too experienced with this.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the info. - I actually don't mind the property, price, amenities, or even parking rates, but it does seem to be at the far edge of the zone so it seems like a lot of walking unless we can master the transit system or decide to take a taxi.

The issue with this property is that it is on the West border of this zone,

and that does mean about a 15-17 minute walk to Michigan Ave (and a shorter walk

to the nearby River North area.) There's also the brown line CTA station right there, which goes North towards Lincoln Park and beyond and South into the Loop.

So, while not optimal, this property - in my opinion - is at least workable if it's the cheapest option.

Thanks again - I guess the $ 129.00, 4 star MM/ Streeterville (smoke free, fitness, pool, restaurant, bus center, internet) could be a possibility is that Swissotel ? Or possibly Museum Campus/ Soldier Field, 4 star fitness, swiming, restaurant, internet - is that the Hyatt might work too. I was hoping to stay downtown, but we don't necessarily have to either.

The issue with the potential Hyatt McCormick is that it's rather far South of the downtown area, out by McCormick Place. There's really nothing right around it, and one can't really walk to anything (easily) - you would have to use the hotel shuttle (which I believe they have, although if I remember correctly it's one-way) or the Metra or taxi (or if the shuttle is one way, you would have to find alternate transit back.) One could possibly walk from the Hyatt McCormick to the Museum Campus, but I wouldn't recommend it if it's 85-95 degrees.

Personally, while the HI isn't optimally located, it is downtown (just not centrally located/right near the main sights downtown) and my humble opinion: I'd find it preferable to being far South of the city.

When searching for these dates, I'm seeing a 4* Mag Mile/Streeterville w/fitness, business, internet, restaurant, spa for $106, which would likely be the Hyatt on Wacker. Are you still seeing a 4* in this spot w/smoke free, fitness, pool, restaurant, bus center, internet?

If you are also seeing the possible Hyatt Wacker in the 4* Mag Mile/Streeterville spot, that property does get some mixed reviews (it's a giant convention property, the largest in the city), but it's quite centrally located right by the Michigan Ave. bridge.

Now I'm wondering if we go out to the burbs, I am seeing a 4 1/2 star in the Lombard, Oak Brook, Downers Grove with no smoking, fitness, pool, restaurant, bus. center, internet, golf, tennis for $ 75.00. It probably wasn't our first choice, but I think the metra or driving in would still be an option. I am thinking this might be Westin Lombard Yorktown - is this right do you think.

Still waffling, Let me run one more by you. Still talking about Aug. 8-11, 4 star this time Chicago Loop with fitness, pool, restaurant, business center, internet - my thinking is that this could be Palmer Hilton. Is that a decent guess ?

Ok - I used this site frequently before booking so I thought it was only fair to put this one to bed so to speak. This was the first time I had ever used anything like Priceline or Hotwire before. We ended up booking a 3 1/2 star for $ 115.00, Gold Coast, which ended up being the Hilton Suites really close to the Westin next door where a professional baseball team was staying and the Hancock building, super location. We were really quite pleased with the room more like rooms really. The kids were happy with the pool. One book described this property as 'expensive but without the starch' - that seems like an apt description to me. Parking a bit high maybe, but that's Chicago. Aaron and everybody else thanks for the help and I will use this site and Hotwire again. Best Wishes.

Congrats on your success. :)

Superb rate for this Hilton Suites property, which is in quite a nice location just off Michigan Ave. Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay.

Can you confirm the amenity icons that were showing with this hot.iwre listing? Thank you.

I can't seem to locate my notes, but I believe it was pool, business center, restaurant, fitness center, and internet. We really only used the pool, hot tube (smallish but ok), sauna. I didn't use the fitness center, some may consider that a bit smallish too, but it sure seemed adequate to me and the views are great up there - really nice property.
