This could be the Crowne Plaza or Intercontinental.

The first night is certainly (understandably, given NYE) causing higher prices and problems with availability.

There are some other options of note around the area or not terribly far in the same range, such as a suite at the Flatotel for $421 on sale (1,000-1,200 sq ft) for $421 on Expedia, or the Waldorf Astoria for $379 (again, on Expedia.) Both non-refundable. There are also likely some other options if you are willing to split your stay between one hotel for the first night and another for the slower second and third night.

The Affinia Manhattan is also $320 for these dates, which seems like quite a good deal (considering NYE.)
