Hi

I'm new to priceline and these sort of forums therefore a complete novice!! I'm from the UK and am looking for a hotel room in London(ideally round Westminster area) for one night for 2 people on 26th August. I have done some reading around how the system works, but am still not clear...for example what happens if I don't find a hotel for the amount of money I want to pay, do I get my money back or do I have to settle for the best I can get for my budget? Any help would be most gratefully recieved. Many thanks.

PRICELINE doesn't take money from your credit card UNTIL your bid is successful. On the other hand, it takes the money immediately when the bid is successful, even if you are bidding many months in advance. You have to keep bidding higher until you reach the level at which PL (Priceline) has something available.

If you hit the top of your budget at a certain star level (5* is poshest, and on down to 1*) and aren't successful, you have to lower your sights and bid a lower star level.

To get you started a little more, spend some time reading the FAQs (that is Frequently Asked Questions in forum-speak). Questions and Suggestions (second listing, first post therein).

Enter "london" in the Quick Search box up at the top of this page and you will see a whole bunch of reportings on London results.

Enter "london" and your dates in the blue "priceline" (top right on this page) and you will be taken to Priceline for bidding. Take a really good look at the London map with the various zones (bidding areas). You have to be willing to accept ANYWHERE within that zone if you bid it.

I'm just a member but wanted to get you started a bit. Do post back with your desired star level, zones and budget. One of the experts will give you more specific bidding advice if you want.

After you've looked at the zones and such at PRICELINE, let us know what you're thinking in terms of budget, star rating and zones, and we'll advise accordingly.

If you place a bid and it is accepted, you then "own" the hotel room for that nite... if you're bid is rejected, you can choose to change some aspect of your bid (add a zone, lower the star rating, etc) or just 'walk away' and make other plans for your stay.

Hi, I'm looking ideally at zone 11(Westminster) but could expand the Chelsea and even further if needs be and would really like a 4* hotel - my budget is probably around

I'm happy you've nailed something. Nice.

Regarding further negotiation, during the 24 hour period you can bid again if you change something like add a zone (changing your dates really wasn't an option for you.) Alternatively, you can wait until the next 24 hour bidding period.

Is it a 4*?
