Priceline Hotel: 4* Chicago (River North-NMA) Hotel Sax

Hi. I'm going to be staying in Chicago either the 4th or 5th of August. I was looking at the calendar of priceline wins and this is what I have found people won around my price range at 3.5* in the nma area.

3.5* - EMBASSY SUITES DOWNTOWN (?)- $85 (7/31) (i'd be so happy with this..this is my fav. hotel)

3.5 - allerton $94

3.5 - doubletree $72 (8/1) (I wouldn't mind this)

3.5 - ambassador East - $75 (starting 8/9) (I'd be upset if I won this!)

Now, I have some questions... Embassy suites downtown is embassy suites downtown..not embassy suites lakefront..right? I like them both, I'm just wondering. I like embassy suites lakefront a lot better. I'm afraid I'm going to bid $85 and get the ambassador east (I do NOT want to stay at the ambassador). Does anyone think that might happen?

Then I was looking at the calendar of wins for HOTWIRE and saw that someone won EMBASSY SUITES LAKEFRONT for $89 from 8/8-8/10. Does anyone think I can go on hotwire (never used it..I have no idea how it works) and get the embassy suites for $89 on either august 4th or 5th.

I'm getting so confused. I saw the thread about hotwire amenities. So, I went to HOTWIRE and put in 3.5, streeterville area, and I think that's going to give me the doubletree mag mile, I think. If I was to get the embassy, wouldn't complimentary breakfast be on the amenity list?

I swear I looked earlier today and complimentary breakfast was an amenity... Do they change the hotels a lot or what?

Does anyone think I have a chance at getting the embassy suites lakefront? :)

HOTWIRE only shows one listing at each star level for each set of dates at any one time. The 3.5* Mag Mile-Streeterville at the moment may be the Doubletree (that is actually what I'm seeing in the 3.5* Mag Mile slot for both of these dates.) It may change to something else between now and your stay, but there's no way to know. A hotel may appear frequently for a period of time, then not appear for a while.

There is no way to guarantee a particular property on PRICELINE; if you were to bid for a 3* in the NMA-River North area, the Ambassador East is a possibility (it is 3.5* on HOTWIRE) If you were to bid 3.5* NMA-River North on PRICELINE, both Embassy Suites properties (as well as several other hotels) are possibilities.

Are you staying 8/4 or 8/5? 8/5 is considerably more expensive due to Lollapalooza starting on 8/6.

I bid..I put in 3.5 stars..and they upgraded me (darn it! i was trying to get the embassy suites haha) to a 4 star..and I got the hotel sax. For $80 before taxes.

While sorry to hear you didn't get the ES, this is a very, very nice deal for this property, which was in the Conde Nast Gold List in 2008 and was recently taken over by the Thompson boutique group. Certainly a great location right next to the river, too.
