bmg Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 We are looking for a hotel in the downtown location of Barcelona Spain. We are traveling for a cruise which leaves Sept. 8 and probably will need a hotel at the beginning and then when we return on Sept 18. I am seeing a 5 star hotel with the following and need some help identifying it. Any help is appreciated. Also, does this price appear right. Will we need to bid on two separate times since we are in need of a hotel at both ends. 5 Star HotwireBoutiqueOcean FrontFitness Center PoolRestaurantIt is listed at 183.00 which seems a bit high. Does anyone have experience with this hotel. Thanks very much. bmg
yellowdog Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 We are traveling for a cruise which leaves Sept. 8 and probably will need a hotel at the beginning and then when we return on Sept 18.Is this hotel for the 8 or 18?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
bmg Posted July 26, 2010 Author Report Posted July 26, 2010 In using he HOTWIRE link yes it shows it is for the 18 and older. It also show a 4.5 overall satisfaction. I also asked to be made aware when changes occurred in the price and to keep me abreast of any changes. Tonight I received a notice that the hotel had been reduced to $169.00- however when I opened it it shows a $183.00 price. Any suggestions. Thanks.
yellowdog Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 No, i'm talking about the date. Is your search for 9/8 or 9/18?Yellowdog.
MadFlyer Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 I thought I saw a post a while ago with these amenities and then the poster identified it later as the W Barcelona. I can not find that post now. I had mentioned it could be the Pullman Barcelona Skipper and they confirmed it was not. That said, You could probably get the W on Priceline for the 7th of September (as I understand you need) for around $162-165. (10% off Hotwire) The 8th would be the same. The 18th looks more problamatic and you might consider other options. Good Luck.
bmg Posted July 26, 2010 Author Report Posted July 26, 2010 Sorry, guess I have been on the net too long. It is possibly for both days. Pre-cruise date 9/8 ( for 1 night) and post cruise 9/18 (for 1 night). We may have to stay on the 9/18 because flights are few so I was wondering if we have to make the transactions separate since they will be spread out. Thanks.
bmg Posted July 26, 2010 Author Report Posted July 26, 2010 In regards to the W for the 7th, would that be placing a bid on PRICELINE for the $162-165 or just purchasing it outright. I had checked all of the inquiries and didn't see anything for PRICELINE at that price which really seems great given the property. If so I would much prefer trying for W instead of either paying more fr the same hotel thru HOTWIRE or gambling and getting something else. Am I understanding that Priceline for a 5 star the hotel is generally the W. If it is a bid, then I see why you are saying it may be problematic for the 18th. Thanks so much. I hope that my questions makes sense. bmg
thereuare Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 bmg,Please use separate threads for each leg of your stay... we'll continue this thread for the nite of Sept 7th.MadFlyer is referring to bidding for a 5* hotel for this nite, but there is no guarantee that you'll receive the W Hotel... you could receive any 5* hotel in the zone. The 5* hotel above has not yet been identified... MadFlyer's suggestion of the Pullman Barcelona Skipper is one possibility... Eurostars Grand Marina is another possibility. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.MadFlyer,I think this is the thread you were looking for where you mentioned the Pullman Barcelona Skipper. Thanks for your thoughts/insights in this thread :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bmg Posted July 26, 2010 Author Report Posted July 26, 2010 Thanks. I will heed your advice. I will let you know what I end up with.
MadFlyer Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 For the 7th that would be a name your own price bid of $162 to $165 that should win a 5 star. While there are 11, 5 star hotels in the zone the Eurostars Gran Marina is the most likely when looking at rates at Kayak.es to guide me. I have noticed that in Spain the priceline rate is often the same as the lowest euro rate there. The euro rate is now 162 that night at the Gran Marina. You might get the W, but actually the gran marina is more convenient as you must go all the way around to the W, but can walk straight into the city and cruise shuttles from the gran marina. There could always pop up a new hotel, but these two have been showing the most recently. The Meridian may be back though. Good Luck. PS. Totally different circumstances on the 18th. Very high rates showing for all 5 star hotels. See the Marriott out by airport is available for just 90 euros though. Many do not like location. I am fine with it. If you have Marriott status, Silver and above, their elite hotel with lounge is actually rated as a 5 star, while the other side of hotel carries the 4 star. (spanish standards)
MadFlyer Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Noticed that Meridien did pop up again over on the PRICELINE thread again for this zone again.
bmg Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Wanted to make a report and then give you an update. I did win the bid for Le Meriden Barcelona on Sept. 7th for $160.00 on Priceline. I will report the thread there but wanted you to know since you gave me great advice. At the last moment, I bid a bit higher than the last bid of $145.00 in an attempt to get the W. It seeems everyone who won bid between $155-$162) However, I am vey satisfied with the win and for your help. As you know, I also need a room for Sept 18th for one night. I have been told and learned that the rates are higher on that day, although I did see someone win a bid for the W on the 19th. Having said that I am looking at a Hotwire hotel using your link and need help idenfitying it. Because we are looking to stay in the airport area as we have an early flight I am inerested in learning the name of this hotel. The icons on the 3.5 star site lists at rate of $109.00:Airport ShuttleFitnessPoolRestuarantLaundryAll help is appreciated. Do yo think I will find a better option on Priceline for the area. I will also post the win on Priceline. bmg
bmg Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Wanted to report a win of a bid for Le Meriden in Barcelona Spain for Sept. 7 for one night. On the first bid it was accepted. I knew I was bidding a little higher than the last Le Meriden bid but was trying to get the W. However, I am very satisfied as the post indicates that this hotel is more accessible and in looking at reviews for the hotel, which were good, they said that it was more accessible as well. When the bid was accepted, a pop up came up for airport shuttle transfer services to the downtown location with a price of $27.99 per person. It indicates that at lest 3 stops will be made. Is it a good idea to pre-pay for this servicese and the total cost for 2 people will be $56.00 which seems high. Does anyone have expereince with this and is this a good price. Okay, I need a hotel for Sept 18 th for one night and likely near the airport. I did see something on hot.ire for a 3.5 star hotel at the airport for $109. Seems hotels are high for this date and going fast. I would rather have at least a 4 star but if I can't will settle Any suggestions. I will be taking a early morning flight on the 19th and it is more conveient staying close by or does it matter. The price may dictate where I stay. Thanks for your feedback.
Romelle Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com has a good discussion on transport options. Quick recap below: An airport bus that charges about 5 Euro one-way and runs frequently to the city center. Taxis from 25 to 30 Euro. And a train run that takes you to the center of the city. If your hotel is out a bit, the bus or train could be combined with a metro run.For your second hotel, you will want to start an entirely new post.Romelle
MadFlyer Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 That might be a new listing for the Renaissance by Marriott. You can get it for 89 euro or 7 less than hotwire on their website. Taxes are included on other websites for spain. I will post on Priceline for that recomendation.
thereuare Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Congratulations on your success! While not the W Hotel you were hoping for, glad to see you're pleased with the results and this property will work out just fine for your needs. As Romelle pointed out, for hep with the 9/18 nite of your stay please start a NEW TOPIC.pricline.hotwireThanks, enjoy this leg of your stay.
