anxtogo Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 We will be traveling with car along the east coast this october and would like to stay in boston on October 5th and 6th. We would like to use the name your own price on PRICELINE and wondered if the prices would be more favorable if we wait until October to bid?
AaronJB Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)September/October are generally busier months (decent weather, conventions) in cities such as NYC, Boston and Chicago, and are more expensive. There is no way to know for sure in general if rates will be down closer to the date/s of travel. Sometimes that works, but if there's something going on or traffic comes in higher than expected, the strategy of waiting until the last moment can go quite wrong, as rates can suddenly ramp higher.Personally, in terms of Boston in October, I'd suggest starting to plan a purchase now rather than waiting until the last minute. What would be your desired budget per night? Additionally, which zones of Boston would you be interested in bidding for, and at what star rating? Is this a one nite stay or two? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
anxtogo Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Since we will be going to concord and lexington also I believe we will stay in Boston on Ocober 5th only. We would like to stay close to the historical areas of Boston so we can walk to and from. Due to the approximately $40 parking we'd like to stay around $150 for the hotel itself. Any advice would be appreciated.

Fill in your dates and Boston and click on that. You will be taken to the actual bidding site and can see the maps. Pick which areas ("zones") work for you. In future discussions back here, refer to them by name rather than number. The map can be enlarged or reduced with the +- signs if you need more detail. And there are individual expansions of the different areas. When you bid a zone, you have to be willing to accept a hotel ANYWHERE in that zone. Also, on this site are several other good things for preparing for your bidding: 1 At the very top of the page, center, you can enter "Boston" and do a search on what other bidders have reported. 2 In the center of the page is the "Calendar of Wins". Enter your dates and scroll down to Massachusetts - Priceline. If someone else has bid for your exact day you will see what they reported. 3 Under the "Hotel Reviews" tab are reviews reported here. A good idea to take at look at these. Always remembering that you could get any of these hotels, or even a completely different one not yet reported. 4 And finally, the very first post in this area is a list of Massachusetts hotels other members have reported as getting via Priceline.I'm just a member, but if you post back with the PL zones, one of the experts here will help you further with a bidding strategy. I totally agree with AaronJB - start now.The history in Boston fascinates me. I've always been convinced I can still hear Paul Revere's horse galloping when I'm there.Romelle
anxtogo Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Thanks Romelle for your help. It appears that we would be interested in the Copley Square - Theater District, the Quincy Market area, or the Boston Harbor Front. It seems that all 3 of these areas are within easy walking distance of the Freedom Trail and other sites we would like to visit. There is only 1 winning bid for our date of October 5 and that is in Springfield which is hardly applicable to Boston.
