Ralph777 Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 I started out with $64 bid for 3.5* which was refused. I kept on adding the adjacent 6 areas (which don't have 3.5*) one at a time - adding about $4 each bid. I was not successful until the 6th bid. I am still happy with the results as this is still much less than rack rate. But I see several other successful bids for the same hotel and a significantly lower price so curious what is going on. Does the Priceline system take into account that you are re-bidding and adjust the software to be more 'greedy' - as in they know you might be increasingly more desperate? Thanks again to this site. I'm embarrassed about the years I didn't know about Betterbidding and was using PRICELINE in the blind.
Ralph777 Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 Sorry, wrong date in title. Should be 8/8/10 - 8/9/10
AaronJB Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Congrats on your success. :)Prices can vary significantly by dates and even from day-to-day; these rates may be higher than other recent dates (maybe something going on in NYC, etc.)Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
Ralph777 Posted July 30, 2010 Author Report Posted July 30, 2010 I did not do my due diligence and have since found some horrific reviews on this property (including bed bugs!). So I have decided to sacrifice the stay and bid on another area. Can anyone suggest an area with four star properties. I will still have a rental car so can drive a ways. I will actually be in Danbury, CT for a few days before and was just moving closer to LGA because I don't know about the traffic (my flight doesn't leave until 1:30p).

djk Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 The Crowne Plaza is showing its age but it is OK, and very good for the price you paid. I have bid up to $150 for it without success - it all depends how many rooms are available on the days you are bidding for. If I were you I would keep the reservation you have. If you don't like your room they will move you to another. The staff there are very helpful.
