markvancouver Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Hi All,I am looking to bid on hotwire hotel in Chelsea / MSG from August 13-21 for $199. It is listed as a 3.5 star hotel but has no amenities listed. Hotwire users gave it %100 but I am wary that this might mean it was only reviewed by one user. Any thoughts?Would I be safer with a 3 star in the same neighbourhood for 189 with breakfast / fitness / business / internet listed as amenities? Any ideas what these two hotels might be?Thanks a million! I promise to book through your link.Mark
markvancouver Posted July 28, 2010 Author Report Posted July 28, 2010 Hi I'm looking to spend 189-199 night for aug 13-21 for a four star somewhere walkable to javits center. so chelsea, msg, maybe midtown, empire state. any suggestions? thanks,Mark
AaronJB Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, without any sort of amenities showing, there's no way to know for sure which hotel the 3.5* may be. However, the 4.5/5 tripadvisor rating on the detail page would suggest this property gets excellent reviews (double check that you are seeing this, as well - click "continue" on the listing to go to the detail page, then go to the bottom of that page and there should be 4.5/5 circles shaded.) So, while there's no way to know which property this may be, this at least gets excellent reviews. The 3* would appear to be a match for the Holiday Inn Express MSG. While this is a "safer" bet due to having a reasonably good idea as to what this is, paying $10 more for a more upscale property that - given the tripadvisor reviews showing - gets good reviews - is an interesting "risk/reward" situation. It's risky in that without any amenities, there's no way to know which hotel this may be - however, if the reviews are in fact 4.5/5 on tripadvisor, this could be a good reward. However, whether or not this is an appealing risk is going to differ from person-to-person.In terms of PRICELINE, Chelsea and MSG do not have 4* bidding; would MTW, ESB, Times Square/Theatre be of interest for 4*?Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
markvancouver Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 thanks so much Aaron. indeed 4* MTW and ESB on priceline would be of interest. thoughts?
AaronJB Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 8 straight days may be problematic in terms of bidding on PRICELINE, especially in NYC. While you may be able to get 8 straight within your budget range, would you be okay with possibly moving hotels during your stay at the mid-point?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
markvancouver Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 so far i've booked the roger williams aug 13-17 at $189, although it isn't really $189 of course because of this pesky $20 'resort fee' which I am was not thrilled to learn about after I had already booked...caveat emptor i suppose. still cheaper than normal.M
