chipstick Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Hi,I've tried to book a name yr price minivan from LA 12-29 sept but it comes back saying no cars available. Then on that screen it shows me cars I can choose to book, which includes a minivan from downtown LA for the duration - which is exactly what I was trying to name my price on. So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or whether perhaps they're (hertz) are just not offering further discounts for that car over that period.Any experience, suggestions comments etc... appreciated.ThanksAlso, does anyone know what additional insurance you need to buy on top of the price? Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Can you please clarify... did you place a bid and were told no cars available OR did you get that message before even placing a bid?If you did place a bid what was your bid price? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. chipstick Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 Yes I placed a bid first. Ist try $30. 2nd try $35. Both times I had the same message.I had been using lax as pick up drop off and outcome was bid too low, but our plans changed and now we are after la suburb pick up drop off.Cheers
chipstick Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 I just tried bidding again at $35 a day and it came back with same thing:Unfortunately, our Name Your Own Price service was unable to locate an available rental car for the area and dates you selected. However, we have found a broad selection of rental car options below. And below it listed again hertz (weekly rental $323.54 - $360.44) at 3 locations near downtown and Enterprise cars had minivan for $329.99 per week.So not sure if I'm doing something wrong or there are just no cheaper rates available. Thanks for yr help!
thereuare Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Are you entering "Los Angeles" as your rental location OR LAX (Airport)? For the rates you quote above, is that base rate or all-in including taxes and fees.PLEASE remember to use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding. chipstick Posted July 30, 2010 Author Report Posted July 30, 2010 Entering Los angeles (not lax). Entered $35 per day before taxes etc..Cheers
chipstick Posted July 30, 2010 Author Report Posted July 30, 2010 Ive had a look at hotwire and retail price (you can cancel booking) from post code 90048 is around $45 a day. However it says: * Rates are shown in US dollars. Total price for nondiscounted, regular-rate rentals is an estimate based on the agency's published rates, taxes and fees. Does this mean the car company can increase the price you book at (given it says 'estimate' and you don't pay until you've returned car? I'm confused and not sure if I should book this if I can turn up and they charge us a higher price? Will still try for name yr price on priceline if that's possible...Finally, the taxes for the hotwire booking is around $80. Are these the only additional charges apart from insurance? And does anyone know what insurance we need? Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 The rate will not change once booked... but the actual total may differ from the reservation by a few cents. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. for all your bidding, searches and purchases.
