dont_go_on_me Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 My friend and I are going to NYC for the weekend of October 22-25. We're both male and in our mid-20's, going for a couple concerts and your typical sight-seeing type of weekend. Our main goal is cost-efficiency/value. Looking for a basic & clean hotel in Manhatten. I'm thinking 2.5-3 stars will suffice just fine as we basically just need the hotel to sleep and shower and nothing more. We're open to most areas of the city, with the exception of MTE and UES. We don't love Dowtown either, but again would be willing to stay there if the price is right since we have no problem navigating the subway. I know UWS doesn't appeal to many here, but I've got a few friends who live in the UWS and I happen to really enjoy that neighborhood vibe so as long as it's not Harlem UWS would be just fine. We're hoping to spend no more than $180/night (after taxes). What's your recommendation for bidding strategy? Thank you!
thereuare Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!...so as long as it's not Harlem UWS would be just fine.Your hotel can be anywhere within the zone, which extends as far North as 106th St, would this be acceptable? So which zones are acceptalbe? (rather then the ones which are not) Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is the goal the least expensive 2.5* or better? (my advice is to try to stick with the higher rated hotels, so i'd sooner recommend setting your minimum star ratinng at 3* to begin... while there may be some 2.5* properties which are acceptable to you, there may be some which are not, and with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE you can't choose which type you will get :) )I assume if you get a room with only one bed that is acceptable?Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dont_go_on_me Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 UWS works for me, and a one bed room wouldn't be a problem either (pretty much expected thru Priceline). Every area of Manhatten is fine except UES and MTE.Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 So which zones are acceptable? (rather then the ones which are not)Listing the zones you will accept makes it easier for us to provide a strategy so we don't need to load up the PRICELINE page and sift thru the zones determining which ones you're willing to bid... please list them for us.Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is the goal the least expensive 2.5* or better? (my advice is to try to stick with the higher rated hotels, so i'd sooner recommend setting your minimum star ratinng at 3* to begin...We'll also need to know if you're sticking with the 2.5* level or interested in increasing your minimum star rating. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click this PRICELINE link before replying. thereuare Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 A $180 all-in is about a $153 bid, but HOTWIRE has 3* and higher hotels starting at $139/nite, so we'll use that as your maximum bid for now.Select 3* CPS, Chelsea, DT, ESB, and UWS...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* HK, MSG, MTW, TS...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* HK, Chelsea, DT, ESB, and UWS...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MSG, MTW, TS...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MSG, DT, ESB, and UWS...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* HK, Chelsea, MTW, TS...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, Chelsea, MTW, ESB, and UWS...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* HK, MSG, DT, TS...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, Chelsea, DT, TS, and UWS...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* HK, MSG, MTW, ESB...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, Chelsea, DT, ESB, and UWS.
