Priceline Hotel: 3* or 4* in Victoria

I have placed bids ranging from $60 to $85 for 3* and 4* hotels in Victoria, BC (I have tried all regions) in the last week and my bids keep getting rejected. I am very surprised my bid of $85 for a 3* hotel in any Victoria region was rejected.

Dates of stay: 6 August - 8 August.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

This is peak season for this area. If you enter "Victoria" in the QUICK SEARCH box in the blue banner at the top of the board you'll see almost no reported wins at $100 or less, and for the few wins that are under $100, they're not during the busy summer season.

What is your maximum bid for this stay? What is the best deal you're able to find thru conventional booking channels?

Thanks for getting to me!

My maximum bid for a 4* has been $95 (usd).

My maximum bid for a 3* has been $85(usd).

I don't want to go under a 3*. The best deal I've found has been approx $90 for the English Inn. However, the reviews for that aren't great (especially in terms of cleanliness, which is the most important factor for me).

Do you have any more suggestions?

Many thanks

Do you mean you have acutally bid these amounts at this star level OR this is your current maximum threshold but haven't reached these bid amounts yet?

I actually bid those amounts. I really don't want to go much higher than those amounts, however I don't know how realistic that is? What do you think?

It's peak season, and a weekend, so hotels are not desperate to offer deep discounts to the opaque suppliers... they may feel they can sell all or most of their rooms on their own and therefore offer little discounts.

If you're willing to increase your budget there are some 3* properties on Expedia (please use this link) in the $119-$135 range and you'll know exactly what you're getting.

My guess is that hotels have little incentive to discount too deeply at the moment, and your bids are too low based upon the time of year.

Hi kaon82 - just thought I'd share my experience. I too tried bidding on hotels for Victoria unsuccessfully, for August 15-17. I bid three times - 3.5* and 4* up to $85 for each, 3* up to $70. No luck. Ended up following the recommendation of a friend of a friend, and booked a mini double room at the Ocean Island Backpackers Inn for $45/night.
