sweetiemoose Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Hello, I'm new to Priceline and would really appreciate some help and advice. :) From my research it would appear that Sept is an expensive time to be in NYC. Could you advice me what sort of price i'm likely to have to bid up to in order to get a 4* in TS, MTW, ESB or MSG? (i think these are the areas i want - we want to be close to all the action since we're only in NY for a few nights!)I think i'd be prepared to go out to about $250, but would appreciate a strategy to help me get the best price. I am finding the re-bidding a bit confusing! :) Many thanks
AaronJB Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)NYC is quite expensive in September with nicer weather and conventions/events. Unfortunately, these dates seem to be particularly busy - rates are in the $400-500 range for most 4*'s and 3* and 3.5*'s are at $300-350. A number of properties also appear to be booked up. There is not 4* bidding in MSG, but a 4* in the three other zones could certainly take up to $250 (and possibly higher) given how high rates are, but I'd start at the $175 range and work higher from there. HOTWIRE and Travelocity's secret hotel area are showing 4*' options in the low $300 area. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Travelocity links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 I am finding the re-bidding a bit confusing! :)Why don't we start with the re-bidding, make sure you're comfortable with that since it will be used in just about any strategy suggested, and this way you'll have the knowledge for all your future bidding.Start with this thread: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and ask any questions you have. sweetiemoose Posted July 25, 2010 Author Report Posted July 25, 2010 Ok i think i've got it. There's so much useful information on this forum!!I'd be grateful for a strategy to get me started.thanks
thereuare Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 Do you want to confirm your re-bid zones with the board? (you have SIX of them at the 4* level)Also, is there a reason you're not bidding the MTE and/or CPS zones? At the 4* level they're usually considered convenient and close to mass transit, and given these expensive, dates, including more zones may increase your chances of landing a better deal. Of course if there are hotels in either of these zones you're trying to avoid, then you shouldn't include them, but as noted, including them would increase your chances simply because there would be more hotels eligible to accept your bid.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 There is no 4* bidding offered in the MSG zone.At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. deebee11 Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 Hello, I'd really appreciate it if you could tell us if you're successful. I'm searching for almost the same dates (Sept 25-28) and finding hotels crazy-expensive for that weekend! Unfortunately my dates aren't flexible this time, but for location, as long as I'm reasonably central in Manhattan (i.e. cheap cab, subway) that's fine. A 4-star hotel would be fabulous, but right now I can't even get a 3-star for $195. Help, I don't want to return home with bedbugs!! (<sigh> I was there in May, and paid $130 for the Red Roof Inn on 32nd street - now it's $330!)
AaronJB Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 Deebee, Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please start a new thread if you would like help with your stay - sorry to hear that rates are quite expensive for these dates.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
deebee11 Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Oh, sorry, I'm new to this and I broke the rules the first time out. Can I delete that post and start a new thread?
AaronJB Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 No problem! :)You can leave that post and just start a new thread for your stay.
sweetiemoose Posted July 27, 2010 Author Report Posted July 27, 2010 Good luck with your search! I tried last night and no luck. I'll keep you all posted. It is rediculously expensive that week - i wonder whats happening in NY? Trust me to chose an expensive week for my first trip :) Ah well i'm going to try again now.
AaronJB Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Best of luck with your next round of bidding. Unfortunately, NYC has been more expensive in terms of hotels this year versus the last couple, and late September is generally the start of a busy period that lasts until around Christmas (with a few slow patches here-and-there.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
sweetiemoose Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 I just managed to get the 3* four points sheraton midtown for $225. i was a bit of a shock when i actually got it and probably wasn't as careful as i should be when bidding!! I think its probably still an ok deal for september.
thereuare Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Hope you're happy with the results and this property works well for your plans. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
