mooshoo12 Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Trying to bid on priceline for the above stay. I'm using the bonus cash, so the prices you see hereafter are inclusive of the $10 bonus cash.Started at $90 and made my way up all the way to $130 through re-bids. Still not accepted. What's going on? I saw another post 8/22/2010 to 8/24/2010 go for $105, same details. Am I missing some kind of holiday or parade that is on these dates? I did do a quick comparison for the Westin through a straight buy on Priceline; 8/22/2010 costs $181/night vs. 8/16/2010 which costs $211/night. Assuming $181-$105 = $76 savings...I should bid $211-$76 = acceptable bid of $125?
AaronJB Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 There may be a convention or other event going on during these dates that is keeping rates from being more aggressively discounted, with bids up to $130 not being accepted and a 4* in the Jersey City-Hoboken area on HOTWIRE showing for $230 for these dates. What would be your desired max budget per night for hotel? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mooshoo12 Posted July 24, 2010 Author Report Posted July 24, 2010 in that area for 4*. $150/night, inclusive of the $10 cash bonus.
AaronJB Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 If $150 (including the $10) is your desired max, I would try up to that point and then if that does not work, try up to that "ceiling" again next week to see if availability has changed.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Please note that you can still use your Bonus Cash along with the board's PRICELINE links as follows...1) click the PRICELINE link on the board2) go to the MY PROFILE >> MY REWARDS link at the top right of their home page3) use the bonus money link in the MY REWARDS section of your profile (not a link from an email) and bid as usualThanks!I did do a quick comparison for the Westin through a straight buy on Priceline; 8/22/2010 costs $181/night vs. 8/16/2010 which costs $211/night. Assuming $181-$105 = $76 savings...I should bid $211-$76 = acceptable bid of $125?Discounts are not necessarily linear... as the demand and price goes up, the percentage discount may actually go down (or disappear entirely) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mooshoo12 Posted July 27, 2010 Author Report Posted July 27, 2010 So I tried again over the weekend and up to today as well. Got my bid up to $150 on Priceline before I gave up. There must be something going on those dates for it not to be discounted.Anyway, I settled on a privately owned space for a reasonable price. (I paid $90/night for a very nice place in Jersey City. 15 minute bus ride into Manhattan) It's not a hotel, but was great alternative if you're willing to try out something different. Of course you'll find some dirty grungy places as it's a privately owned space, but there are more than your fair share of excellent clean places.
