studcas007 Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Hi !My wife and I will be in NYC 8/26 - 9/6 and would like to be close to our family in the Fin-District. Any suggestions on best strategy to get 3.5-4 * hotels in the Downtown/Soho district for those dates? Better to do it multiple blocks of dates as opposed to all 11 nights? Also, right it shows median price for 4* as $332 -- in other cities sometimes you can get hotels at 25-50% of that price -- is that reasonable? How to go about finding a place in the same area? Any reccs on hotels in the area? Thanks for all the wonderful help here as always!

Romelle Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 While you are waiting for the reply, you could do a little research that might answer your question about bidding all 11 nights or breaking it up into blocks. If you put your dates into Expedia or the retail side of PRICELINE, the hotels list their rates by individual date. If all the rates are usually pretty much the same it can make sense to bid a longer span of dates all at once. However, if the rates are sharply higher or lower for certain dates, then you need to consider splitting your bid into some blocks. Of course, if you bid blocks of dates separately, you are taking the chance that you will be awarded different hotels for the different blocks and have to move. Romelle
thereuare Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* or is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? Are you open to changing hotels mid-stay... if so, how much would you need to save to make it worthwhile? What is your expected budget per nite? Is Downtown the only zone you're interested in?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. studcas007 Posted July 25, 2010 Author Report Posted July 25, 2010 Thanks Thereuare! * Goal is Least expensive 3.5* or better -- not sure 4* is worth paying more for* Yes, I am open to changing hotels mid-stay -- if it brings the total cost of the stay down* Expected budget is around $150-$175* Downtown is the preferred zone for access; I wouldn't mid other suggestions (Chelsea??)Thanks again.
thereuare Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 Since you have reason to stay Downtown i would start there, trying up to your limit for the complete stay, then if that is rejected we can look at further options in regards to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and other nearby zones. At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 3.5* Downtown...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Downtown and re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Downtown and re-bid zone4...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Downtown and re-bid zone3 and re-bid zone4...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. studcas007 Posted July 28, 2010 Author Report Posted July 28, 2010 Thank you so much for the excellent strategy -- I will attempt to execute it in the next few days and report. I will make sure to use the links from this website -- we need to support this great forum. Also, do you recommend starting with a 4* and adding 3.5* to enhance my chances and/or increase # of bids I can make?
thereuare Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 If your goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better (vs. paying more for a 4* hotel) then the above is the best strategy. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding.
