sandmans42 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 ok, been bidding lurking on these boards and I wanted to post success!! bid in the 85-92 range for a 4*-3.5* with no success, so I dropped the bid to 85 and went 3* in the north river.. I was shocked it was accpeted.. I'll have to do my research on it but it look like retail is $175-200 a night..!! thank you for all the info here... and i did use the link at the top of the page like what is always suggested.. now has anyone stayed there? I didn't see it listed as a place of stays on these boards but I should be pretty happy with the price I presume... :)
yellowdog Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding and congratulations on your success!Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding :) We hope you're satisfied with the outcome and will like the hotel.Looks like a nice deal for you. I think you just overlooked this hotel in the list.Enjoy your stay.Yellowdog.
sandmans42 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 I did find it when I went back through.. thanks! maybe I could have done a little better? but anything under 90-100 in the fall seems good from what I've read here.. should be a good trip. we are planning for a Cubs game and Bears game! must have access to the public transportation is key for us.. we will not be renting a car and we are flying into midway.. so I'm assuming I should be ok with the two ball parks witha little walking..
AaronJB Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 This is a very historic property in the Gold Coast area. It was an Omni for a while, then an indie property and then was recently taken over by famed boutique operator Ian Schrager recently, and will be given a major renovation starting later this year. This property was - for many decades - THE place to be for visiting celebs (Bacall, Bogart, Sinatra, Garland, Newman and many, many others.) There is a wall of signed photos just off the lobby, and some of the suites are named for the celebs who have stayed there over the years. The Pump Room restaurant in the hotel is also legendary - see link for historyThis is an older property, and reviews are a little mixed. However, I think this is a pleasant property with some neat history. It's also in a rather unique location in the Gold Coast. The streets directly around this property are quiet residential streets with a number of beautiful (and in some cases historic) apartments and townhomes. Starting a couple of blocks South is a wide variety of restaurants and nightlife. This is also an easy walk to Michigan Ave or North to the Lincoln Park Zoo.There is a CTA station a few blocks away at the corner of Clark and Division. From there, it's an easy trip North on the Red Line to Addison and Wrigley Field is only a couple of blocks from the Addison station. From Midway, take the Orange Line to Roosevelt, then transfer there to the Red Line. Continue North on the Red Line to Clark/Division and the Ambassador E is only a few minutes from there.Let me know if you have any questions.
sandmans42 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 wow thanks Aaron..!! I will keep your notes with me for sure.. I called and confirmed already but they have me for a king and would like 2 doubles.. $20 chage per night to change! she said the doubles are more.. I said they seem to be the same on the website. I will try back in a week or 2. I def. think priceline people don't get any preferential treatment at all nor should they I guess, but I'll try again.. :)
AaronJB Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 I'd try again in a few weeks and see what they say; I'd guess this property may not have too many rooms with two beds.Additionally, in terms of sports, there's a lot of nightlife along Division street nearby - most of those places will likely have one or more games on the TV's. There's a wide variety of restaurants in the blocks nearby - everything from Chipotle to Big Bowl (Asian) to Corner Bakery to more upscale. Morton's Steakhouse is a few blocks South on State, and Tavern on Rush, Gibson's, Carmine's and others are right there, as well.
