Welcome to BetterBidding!

booked the sheraton on HOTWIRE for $ 195 for 3 nights...
Perhaps your Boston win could help another user, just as you are looking for help in NYC based upon the wins of others. Please share your HOTWIRE purchase with the board by starting a NEW TOPIC in the Hotwire Massachusetts section of the board. Please include the star rating, city, zone, hotel name, room rate, dates and amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.

Then reply to this thread and we'll have a look at your the details of your NYC stay above.

Thanks for sharing your Hotwire Boston win with the board.

For these dates in NYC, i'm guessing at the moment a 3.5* might be had for ~$180-$200 where as a 4* may even be had for the upper end of this range. Is you budget flexible to be increased (if so i'll discuss some 'issues' with some of the zones at the 3.5* level)... or is lowering to 3* an option and/or SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID or do you prefer to just wait it out and hope for lower prices down the road?

hi thanks for your reply my budget is prob set at $150 dont know if im bidding correctly 3.5* is what i was looking for but if 3* are nice thats not a problem as long as its clean and easy to walk to attractions or subways that be ok first time in nyc so not sure about best areas to stay in also dont have a problem with splitting my bid might be nice to be in another part of city i

There are two questions that need to be answered when bidding less than 4* in NYC...

1) is a 15 minute walk to the subway acceptable? In the MTE zone is the Millennium UN, which is a nice hotel with generally good reviews, but it's a 15 minute walk to the subway... fine for some, too far for others. You need to decide if this is acceptable to determine if you should bid this zone.

2) see the video/pictures on the right side of the page HERE for the Hudson Hotel... it's a 'young and hip' hotel, but the rooms are notoriously small (even by NYC standards)... is this acceptable?

Let us know the above and we'll be in a better position to advise based upon your needs.

The Wall St area is 'ok' if you can get a good price... for the average visitor they'll typically spend more time in midtown, and it's about a 20-25 minute subway ride from Downtown to Midtown; not terrible, but can get a bit tiring fast on a multi-nite stay. As well, the Downtown-Financial area is can get very quiet on the weekends (not much of a factor for you since your stay is 9/5-9/10, Sunday-Friday) but even during the week it can quiet in the evening. As a result, staying Downtown can have a very different feel from the 'buzz' of staying in midtown.

thanks again for your help going by what you have said will go for midtown any area around there will be ok my budget is around $160 - $200 for 3.5* or 4* if i could get it cheaper that would be a great dont have a problem with the hudson hotel

another quick question my flight from scotland arrives in boston on the 30th so staying there for 3 nights and leaves from new york on the 10th sept so going to stay in new york for 5 nights was thinking of staying in washington for 3 nights is washington ok or is there another part of the country i should visit

Did you want to try for a 4* hotel first up to your limit and then, if rejected, try for a 3.5* hotel... OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? At the 3.5* level did you decide to include MTE or not? (ie- with the chance of receiving the Millennium UN)

Your three city choices are all within fairly close proximity of each other (in terms of being able to travel to/from without taking up an entire day) and each has a personality all its own, so from that aspect it's a good choice. It wold be nice to head to the west coast and see Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, etc which each have their own personalities as well (and then also have the East Coast / West Coast differences on top of that) but the costs would likely be prohibitive given airfare these days as well as taking up a LOT of time traveling... best to stay more 'local' this trip and save the west coast for the next time.

To confirm, at the 3.5* level you don't want to bid MTE, correct? (but it's acceptable at the 4* level, right?)

yes that correct
