lvanhoe Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Hi,me and my girlfriend are looking for a hotel in NY between 9/23/10-9/29/10. So 6 nights. We're from the Netherlands and have never used priceline before so we are looking for some tips and tricks to get a nice hotel for a reasonable price. We don't really care that much about the location, as long as it's on Manhattan (and not upper east and west, but we would like a 3*+ hotel. We we're thinking somewhere in the range of 150$ per night but are willing to up to about 200$ if necessary. So, what is our best approach? Should we split the 6 nights in 3 and 3? And how many *'s is reasonable for this pricerange in that period? Would 3,5 be possible or should we settle for 3? Or would even that be a problemm?Looking forward to your replies! Ivo & Linda
lvanhoe Posted July 18, 2010 Author Report Posted July 18, 2010 Alright, is it even possible to use Priceline when you're from Europe? :) It seems i'm only able to select 2 countries when booking the room: US and Canada..
lvanhoe Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Posted July 19, 2010 Alright, ignore this post - tried with Las Vegas Nevada 99999 and this works, even tho i set an insanely low offer just to try it out. Tips as stated in my opening post are still welcome!
thereuare Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 I'm afraid that even $150 may be tough for a 3* for these dates and i think it's more likely that you'll have to go up to $200... did you want to try for a 3.5* up to $200 first OR try for the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lvanhoe Posted July 19, 2010 Author Report Posted July 19, 2010 Not sure yet, are the differences between 3,5* and 3* really big? I thought i'd use the rebid-zone-trick on the 3,5* first for a week or two, to see if it's possible to get anything under 200$, and if that seems to be impossible we might have to settle for 3* i guess? We're in the US for nearly 3 weeks, planning on visiting Boston and Washington as well, so we can't really go higher then 200$ in NY budget-wise. I will always use the BB links while searching and/or booking :)

As per your post above, Downtown is an acceptable zone as well? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links. lvanhoe Posted July 23, 2010 Author Report Posted July 23, 2010 Small update - have been trying for 3* up to 200$ every day and haven't had any luck yet. Also tried splitting into 3/3. Haven't tried adding Downtown yet, you think a tourist planning on using the subway will be happy in that area as well?
thereuare Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 It's certainly do-able... it just gets a 'bit old' riding the subway 20-25 minutes each time you want to go to midtown. Do you have a rough itinerary of what you want to do when in the city yet... how much of your activities are centered on Downtown, The Village, Midtown, Uptown? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lvanhoe Posted July 28, 2010 Author Report Posted July 28, 2010 Don't know yet, we are first time visitors so i guess we are going to be total tourists and check out all the popular tourist-stuff. I don't think we'd care much about riding the sub as it's only for a small period of time so i will include Soho from now on.

lvanhoe Posted August 2, 2010 Author Report Posted August 2, 2010 Got the 3,5* World Centre Hotel in Soho for 210$ for the first 3 nights of our stay (9/23 - 9/26), I'm kinda pleased with the price, as all the 3,5* hotels were extremely expensive in the period we're in NY. I was about to give up on 3,5 and up and just move on to 3 or even 2*. I rebid all the way up from 170$ in 10$ increments so this is probably the best price.Still looking for 3 more nights :)
