thereuare
Rates are high for this week... what is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? (both daily and 'all-in' rate?)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. turboguy
So far, the best rate with a discount code and a coupon, I can get a standard size car at Alamo for $57.13 per day and $71.68 per day including taxes etc directly from the Alamo website. Link to comment
turboguy
Did more checking... best deal now on the Internet is $33 per day, 43.93 all-in per day ($307.51/wk). Applies to both Dollar and Thrifty. Mid-size vehicle. Link to comment
thereuare
Assuming both of these are cancellable i would book that as a back-up as most rates are higher then this and i'm not sure that you'll be able to do better.Your $308 all-in price is equivalent to about a $31/day bid on PRICELINE, so i would continue bidding up towards whatever level you feel you need in savings to lock-in a non-refundable reservation. Based upon current prices i would you would need to be closer to $25+ then the $18-$20 you're currently bidding. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know if we can be of further help along the way. turboguy
Good advice. I have made my backup reservation using the coupons etc. Now I just have to wait and see if I can get any last minute deals...... Link to comment
turboguy
Has been a very interesting past week....I have been checking the pricing on a more or less daily basis on Dollar and Thrifty. Last Thursday 1 week before my trip they both offered a City Special of $208 per week on a mid-size, so I immediately rebooked at that rate. Regular price was $431.99 per week, worked out to 52% savings. The next day, the City Special prices went up again. Also tried bidding $25 for the last 4 days on PL on mid-size. No point going higher than that. All have failed. So I have a guaranteed price now of $29.71 per day - all-in price of $280.87 for week, $40.12 per day. No coupons, no corporate ID, no successful bid on PL, and still better than the best corporate ID I could find on the Net.My conclusion from all this is that bidding for rental cars is completely hit and miss, requiring a lot of effort if you really want the best deal.
