atreu Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 My wife and I will be in Thailand from jan 5 to 10. Wanted to stay 2 nights in Bangkok and then the rest in Phuket or one of the other islands. Looking at the board it looked like the average for a 5* in Bangkok would be around $50 a night. Is that accurate ? Is January super high season so should I up my bid ? I bid $45 right now, there is a long time between now and January so naturally can afford to wait but obviously would like to lock it down.Would it be better to go with a non-bid source to get the hotel directly ?Suggestions welcome and thank you.

atreu Posted July 18, 2010 Author Report Posted July 18, 2010 Which Bangkok zone(s) are you bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Preferrably sukhumvit near the sky train.
thereuare Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 We haven't seen wins in the sukhumvit zone for quite some time, and when we did, the 5 stars typically went more than in the $50's... is' really the other two zones, Siam Square and Riverside-Silom that sees these very low 5* hotel rates. Are these other zone(s) acceptable OR are you only looking to bid/stay in the Sukhumvit zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. atreu Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 Thank you for the detailed analysis. Right now I only am looking to stay in the Sukhumvit zone. I have a few feelers out to some travel agents to see if they can get a better deal for the 5*'s int he region, if they cant substantially beat it then Ill bid again.

atreu Posted July 22, 2010 Author Report Posted July 22, 2010 Just tried again with a bid of $60, still no go.
Chris26WI Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 this period is high season.. and it's been years ago that 5stars BKK (excluding the Amari) have shown up @bids of around +/-US$50, and the Thai Baht is still strong... so I wouldn't expect any good deals for the time being on PRICELINE for 5stars (Sukh + Silom-Riv) for this period.
