Priceline Hotel: strike out in Long Beach! Help

I just tried to book a hotel in Long Beach for 3/16 - 3/20. I started with a four-star hotel rating and a $65 bid. Was declined, then went $70 (added Airport area), $80 (added San Pedro), then $90 (added Torrance).

At that point I closed the browser, reopened and bid for a 3-star in Long Beach for $55, then added Airport and bid $65. Again, declined.

Closed the browser again, reopened and bid for a 2 1/2 star in Long Beach only for $45, and declined.

Closed the browser AGAIN, reopened and bid for a 2 star in Long Beach only for $45. DECLINED.

I see a couple other areas in which bidders are paying $35-$40 for 2-stars. What happened? Am I bidding too low for this area? This is only my second time bidding on Priceline--first time was a great success. Help!

A quick look for your dates shows a few hotels in this area with rates much higher than usual or sold-out completely.

I did see a room at the MARRIOTT for $169/nite or you may want to consider SPLITTING YOUR BID.

Thanks. I see on hotwire.com I can get a 2-star hotel for $65-$70 a night. If I choose that, do I get that rate? And they just pick a hotel for me in Long Beach? Never used Hotwire before. Thanks for any information.

That's the gist of it... but since i'm not familiar with the Long Beach city limits, before you purchase click the link to the map and you'll see a shaded region... the hotel you receive can be anywhere within that shaded area.
