rhyudog Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 I've been bidding up to $86 for Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area & North Michigan Ave - River North Area with no luck. Can anyone here help me? What should I do? I started from $75 and I'm still not getting my offer at $86. Please help
thereuare Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding! It would not be unusual for a 4* hotel in Chicago to go for more than $86... what is the best rate you're able to find at a 4* hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your future bidding, searches and purchases... and assuming this won't be your first PRICELINE / HOTWIRE purchase in the last 3 years, please begin to share your wins with the board. rhyudog Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 Successful bid 9/10/10- 9/12/10 $88 Hyatt Regency Chicago (Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area). Now I have to start bidding for the other two dates. Kinda of inconvenient to be hopping hotels, but oh well. Great deal. The Hyatt Regency on those dates go for $229. What a bargain.
AaronJB Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 Congratulations on your success. :)Excellent deal! Impressive discount for this centrally located Hyatt. Please start a new thread for your additional dates. If you try the "extend your stay" feature with this reservation, does it come back with an offer?Thank you for sharing your result with the board and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
rhyudog Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 yeah. I tried that option. unfortunately, it was rejected. I've been trying up to $100 so far but with no success. Will have to try tomorrow.
AaronJB Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 If you do decide to go down to 3*/3.5*, there are some very nice possible 3*/3.5*'s in the River North-NMA area (a couple of so-so ones and a couple that are not centrally located, but otherwise, the 3*/3.5*'s in the River North-NMA area are good-to-great.)The problem in this case is an absolutely massive convention that starts on the 13th (IMTS 2010 Industry & Technology Conference McCormick Place 9/13/2010 9/18/2010 94,000 attendees.) That's a huge conference, and I'm surprised rates are not higher than they are as a result of the conference. I would try to lock in something for these dates, as that is definitely a major conference for Chicago and could drive rates up further.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
rhyudog Posted July 16, 2010 Author Report Posted July 16, 2010 That's good to know. Thanks for the advice. I will try and get on it right away. I was thinking of waiting and trying every other day to see if they released some 4* hotels, but I can see why I was rejected on the 12th and 13th. I'll post another thread when I am successful and I am definitely using your links. Also, do you think I'll need to rent a car while in Chicago? Or are the subways and busses enough to travel. I will be strolling around a 10 month old during that time so I don't know whether to rent a car or not. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 In terms of downtown Chicago, I would advise not renting a car - it'll only cause added cost and hassle. In terms of seeing some of the attractions outside the city (or even moreso staying outside the city), having a car is definitely helpful. In terms of just being downtown though, public transit is readily available, and most of the city is quite walkable. For example, this particular Hyatt is located right on the river. If you walk a couple of blocks West to Michigan Ave and head North, the Michigan Ave. shopping area is right there. If you walk to Michigan Ave. and head South, Millennium Park and the Art Institute are a few blocks South. You're in the middle, making for reasonable walks to both what the Loop and Michigan Ave. areas have to offer. If you would like to head to the Lincoln Park area, you can take the 151 bus on Michigan Ave. North or take the Red Line subway from the Lake Ave. station, which is about a 5 minute walk from the Hyatt. You can read more about that particular station (pictures, etc.) at this link.Additionally, the two main boat tours - the Chicago Architecture Foundation and the Wendella - leave from docks on opposite sides of the Michigan Ave bridge, which is right by the Hyatt.Best of luck with bidding for the other dates, and thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links. Please let us know if you have questions.Any questions, please feel free to ask.
